Our Rottweiler

We are delighted to introduce you our Rottweiler...............................................................

Vom Saton Marcham (aka Jag)

Jag was born on June 7, 2007, and in typical Rottweiler fashion, he is a loyal and loving companion and our family would not be complete without him. Prior to getting Jag, when we told friends/family the breed of dog we were bringing into our home, the majority of them were horrified and the comments went along the lines of: "won't he eat/kill the cats and kittens?". There is no such thing as a bad Rottweiler, only bad breeders and bad owners! With correct training, exercise, socialisation and good diet, a Rottweiler is the perfect family pet and companion. Not a breed for everyone certainly, and most definitely not a breed that should be put outside in a back garden all day long. Rotties are very companionable dogs and they must be part of the family, in our case, human and feline.

As you can see by the photos below, our "gentle giant" adores our babies and it's not uncommon to find a soaking wet baby running around the home because Jag has been giving the kittens a bath. He takes babysitting duties very seriously and we have no qualms whatsoever about leaving Jag unsupervised with our cat family. A few of our cats do not like him and make their feelings very well known however Jag takes it all in his stride and he knows which cats to avoid and which cats to play with or sleep with.

Do Rottweiler's and cats get on? Can they share the same home without any problems? Yes of course they can, just look at the images below! Jag is left alone, totally unsupervised with our adult cats, and our kittens, even when the babies are as young as 6 weeks. We trust Jag with the cats implicitly however.........................this is down to 2 things. Prior to buying Jag, we ensured we bought a Rottweiler from a breeder who puts a lot of emphasis on temperament. The other aspect is when Jag first came to live with us a very young puppy, we laid ground rules from Day 1. In our home, the cats and kittens are higher up in the "pack" than Jag is. He is well aware of that and he accepts this as perfectly normal.

For the first year and a half, of course we would not leave him unsupervised with the cats and babies, but during the day, he would be in whatever rooms in the home we were in, and the cats would be in those same rooms as well. It simply is a case of setting, and keeping, to ground rules, teaching what is and isn't tolerated, in a calm, but firm manner. Twice daily exercise with basic training is also of paramount importance.

Of course, the only problem we now have is that poor Jag doesn't even get to lie on his dog bed because whenever he meanders upstairs to lie on it, there's normally always cats or kittens who have taken over his bed. He will not go and lie on there if they are on there, so he very patiently lies on the floor, next to the bed, in the hopes that they will get off and let him have his bed back :)

We feel that Jag is so special that we have given him a web site all of his own. To view Jag's web site, please click here.
