Day 30 - December 13, 2007

Short entries today I'm afraid but any entry is better than none at all :)

Game playing is now becoming a very large part of our Monkeys' lives and their little wrestling matches really are something else. Skunky Monkey is definitely one of the most volatile when it comes to wrestling and this is a surprise because as a rule, "Reds" are usually very laid back. Funky Monkey, being a Seal will get into anything and everything bless him, if there is something going on, he just wants to be there. Chunky Monkey is the explorer of the litter and it's not uncommon at all to find her gallivanting around the upstairs part of the home, on her own, trying to find new things she hasn't yet seen. Punky Monkey, well, we all know what she is like.......................Trouble, but so sweet with it. She really is going to be such a mischievous child and she is so determined and stubborn. This brings me to Hunky Monkey. He is one of those bubbly, happy boys who loves life and loves to play. In a way, he actually is exactly what I would expect from a Red, very cheeky, and totally irresistible.

All 5 of our Monkeys are very people orientated in that the moment I go up the stairs, if they are awake and playing they all come running over to me and I have to sit on the floor with them so they can climb up into my lap for cuddles and purrs.

Day 29 - December 12, 2007

Surprisingly, I managed to get individual photos of our Monkeys although I don't they they are particularly great photos. The biggest problem with the babies at this age is that everything is new to them. So when I pick them up and place them on the bedding on top of the "posh box" to try and take their photos, rather than pose, all they want to do is lick/eat the bedding. It's a real battle to get them to hold their little heads up so I can photograph their faces. You have no idea just how many photos I had to discard because all you could see was my hand :) Still, some photos are better than none at all and I know that as the babies mature they will be more obliging with photo sessions.

The Monkeys continue to be totally amazing little children and even though they are still so young, they are already starting to create an awful lot of mess and destruction when they are playing. Punky Monkey, bless her, was having so much fun running in and out of the room this morning that she didn't even see the small water bowl which is right in front of her. Yep, you guessed it, she didn't stop running and all 4 legs were standing in the water bowl. She had to be dried off and the water bowl had to be washed and refilled. Funky Monkey decided that he would use one of the biscuit bowls as a step to get off the ramp and ended up emptying the contents of the bowl all over the floor.

Hunky Monkey made me laugh while I was taking photos this morning because he figured that would be the ideal time to climb up mummy's legs so as I'm crouched down, moving around in front of the "posh box" trying to capture that perfect photo, Hunky Monkey is swinging off my trousers having the time of his life. I really do now know how I will cope with these babies when they get older because they will be into everything, the signs are already there.

Day 28 - December 11, 2007

Toussaint is not in my good books at the moment because yesterday evening, I was downstairs and heard a tremendous scream upstairs. I ran up the stairs and was in time to see Toussaint let go of Drambuie and she had a mouth full of fur. I checked Drambuie over and there was a tiny puncture wound on the side of her face under her jaw. I was furious with Toussaint and I have no idea what started it. I removed the fur from Toussaint's mouth (there was enough of it to make her look like she had a beard!), and then checked Buie again. I put Buie on a/b's and am glad I did because this morning her face/jaw is already swelling up. In future, Toussaint will never be mated at the same time that another lady is pregnant because despite being such a fantastic mum to her own babies, and the Indians, she just can't be trusted with our other ladies. Things have been perfectly fine between the girls since that incident last night and I have no idea what caused it.

As for our Monkeys, well, let's start with weight gains shall we?

Baby
Colour
Sex
Week 3 Weight
Current Weight
Weekly Gain
Funky Monkey
Seal Point Siamese
Male
402 grams
489 grams
87 grams
Chunky Monkey
Oriental Black
Female
390 grams
491 grams
101 grams
Skunky Monkey
Red Tabby Point Siamese
Male
356 grams
435 grams
79 grams
Punky Monkey
Chocolate Oriental Spotted Tabby
Female
291 grams
436 grams
145 grams
Hunky Monkey
Red Oriental Spotted Tabby
Male
356 grams
411 grams
55 grams

These are weights that I am again happy with. You will see that Hunky Monkey made a much less weekly gain than the other Monkeys, however, this is certainly nothing to worry about as his current weight is excellent and he is doing just fine. Punky Monkey and Funky Monkey are the first of our babies to start to come down the steps. Of course I am not surprised at all that Punky was the first! I was going upstairs this morning to start the daily cleaning and here was Punky Monkey on the 2nd step from the top, with Funky Monkey on the 1st step from the top. I often say that when younger babies are mixed in with an older litter, that then tend to advance more quickly as they mimic everything the older babies do and the Monkeys are no exception.
