Day 41 - September 2, 2007

Entries are not the longest today and there aren't many photos sorry. I'm still trying to catch up after our lady's long labour and also today I had the pleasure of Diana's company for a little while as she came to visit her 2 babies. Having Diana in the home is like having part of the family here and it was nice to just take a bit of a break and sit down, chat and do nothing at all :)

There is such a marked difference in Thames and Ock at the moment and I have to say it has not panned out the way I thought it would when the Water Babies were a couple of weeks old. Thames, from a young age, was a bit of a mummy's boy, but now, it has gone totally the other way around. Ock adores her mummy and she wants to spend a lot of time with Toussaint, whereas Thames has decided he is part of the gang, he is a big boy now and does not need a mummy any more. Half the time, I have no idea where he is because he joins in with whatever the Nuts are doing, despite them being so much older than him. He seems to feel he is the same as them, in size, and in age. He is going to be mischievous, I have no doubts about this and may well end up being a bit of a handful just like his dad. Ock seems to be taking on her mother's personality which is very sweet because Toussaint is one of the most people orientated, loving cats in our home.

Day 40 - September 1, 2007

There are no entries today in any of our kitten diaries. It's been a long 24 hours as one of our ladies went into labour. The labour lasted from 9pm last night until just after 9am this morning and we also had one of our older babies, Ice Maiden leaving home today. Entries should resume as per normal tomorrow.

Message for Diana: If you are reading today's entries, can you please call me ASAP on my mobile?

Day 39 - August 31, 2007

Entries are quite short today sorry, quite short with no photos, because our beautiful, but naughty, Canberra left us early this afternoon so it has been quite a busy day. I also seem to be getting the flu so I'm not particularly motivated to write entries to be honest with you. Also, one of our other ladies is due to go into labour today so my time has been divided between running up and downstairs to our bedroom to be with her.

Ock was "examined" by Julie and Andy today, with regards to her Tortie colouring which is definitely better than our Nocino's. Yet even now, I look at both she and Thames and are still convinced that they really are funny looking little children. I'm in such a hurry for these 2 to grow up and mature because I desperately want to know what they will end up looking like when they are mature. Thames is turning into a little monster, he has a favourite playmate and that is Pecan. Whenever I'm upstairs and the babies are playing, it's not unusual at all to see Thames running as fast as he can, chasing Pecan, and then he is chased by Pecan as they go running in the opposite direction. It's as if Thames is fixated on him which is really very cute. I am positive that he has no idea he and Pecan are really the same, so I would dearly love to know what it is that makes him think Pecan is just so wonderful. He doesn't do this with Pistachio or any of the other babies. Ock just loves everyone. She's happy just to be one of the gang and she likes nothing more than when the other babies snuggle up with her in one of the beds.

Day 38 - August 30, 2007

Again today, they are not the longest of kitten diaries as I have one baby leaving home tomorrow and another on Saturday which means I really should get some paperwork done or their new families will not be very impressed :)

Despite the fact that both Thames and Ock are now proper little grown up children who play games with all the bigger babies, Toussaint still feels this pressing need to follow them around and ensure they are coming to no harm. No matter where either baby goes, Toussaint is never far away and she always has her eye on her children. The only time this doesn't happen is at feeding times because one thing about Toussaint, is that she really does love her food.

Day 37 - August 29, 2007
Thames is now starting to well and truly overtake his sister in the weight department. For ages, she was always bigger than him, but now she is no longer such a "bruiser", instead, she is looking more and more feminine each day. Thames is really looking like a proper male kitten now and it's really nice to see. Both of the babies have decided that the place to sleep at the moment is in the bunk beds in the upstairs hallway and neither of them feel that same need that the Nuts and Detectives do whereby they have to all sleep as part of the gang. It's not unusual to find Thames and Ock either together, or in separate places, but nowhere near the other babies. Thames is upset with me because he can no longer go into the small kitten room because ever since I opened up their door, he has been fascinated by that room in particular and was happy to spend time in there with the much older babies. Amaretto and her new children were moved into that room today so the door is obviously kept closed and the poor little guy can't understand why.

Day 36 - August 28, 2007

They are not the longest of entries today as our darling Liquorice left us to go and live with Linz and Lulu, so my morning was spent doing paperwork etc. but I did manage a couple of photos at least.

Thames and Ock really are such funny, sweet little people. They run around the kitten room, and in the upstairs part of the home as if they were fully grown kittens, yet they are still both extremely dependent on mum when it comes to the milk bar, despite both of them eating from the plate at every meal. I look at Thames and can't help but wonder if he is going to end up a Ticked Tabby. It's going to be very interesting to see how he develops during the next couple of months. Ock, on the other hand, is displaying the most beautiful rich, red mingling through her coat. I am incredibly pleased with her tortie colouring and would have to say that it's actually better than our own Nocino's, which surprises me. As for who they take after in looks.......................well at the moment the jury is still out on that one. Thames is showing some signs of looking more like his mum than his dad, whereas Ock is looking like her father at the moment.

Day 35 - August 27, 2007

Unfortunately, there are still no photos for today's entry, not even for our newest babies. I had the best intentions in the world but sometimes, days just do now pan out exactly how we want them to. It's actually nothing short of a miracle that I have managed to get a few sentences in each kitten diary today.

It is actually quite easy to believe that our Water Babies are already 5 weeks old because there have been so many changes within the past few days of their lives. Both Thames and Ock will now happily eat from the plate with everyone else, although Ock has a much better appetite than Thames but chances are, as they mature, this will change. They both now drink water and they play and climb exactly as they should at this age. The door to their kitten room is now open during the day so that the Water Babies, the Nuts and the Detectives can come and go as they please. Litter training is not going particularly well for Thames because for some odd reason, he seems to feel that the place to go to the toilet is on the bed in the posh box. No matter how many times I pick him up and put him in the litter tray (in the middle of a wee), he just climbs straight back out and goes back to the bed to finish his business. To try and stop this, I have now shut up both posh boxes, I've moved one of the sets of double bunks into the kitten room, so the babies all now sleep either in the bunk beds, on top of the scratch post, or on the chair, and these are all places he seems to have no desire to wee. Time will tell as to whether or not when I hoover tomorrow if he has found another little corner to use :)
