Kitten Diaries
Tia Maria
March 2005
Tia Maria's 3rd Kitten Diary - March 2005 to july 2005
Day 127 - August 3, 2005

Due to everything that has recently gone on, I didn't manage to get this last entry online until the 8th. By the time Athos left us to live with Ellice and Andrea, he had truly made himself part of our cat family and was never far from Tia Lusso's side. They absolutely doted on each other and Lusso was forever grooming her brother and playing wrestling games with him. We were so very sad to see him leave but I do know that he's going to be really happy with his new owner, Ellice, and her family. He's such a lovely boy who simply adores cuddles and loves to snuggle and I'm sure he will be spoilt rotten in his new home.

We have yet again come to the end of another Schimmel Kitten Diary and they time has really flown by with this litter. I am always sad once we reach the end of a diary because it does mean that I've said my last goodbyes to the babies we had here. I am so very lucky with this diary though because Tia Lusso is now part of our family so we will always have one of the Musketeers here with us. Many thanks to Gemma and Ellice for sharing their homes with a Musketeer and thanks also to my family, and my vet for his wonderful care of our babies. Thank you also to everyone who has been following this diary from the start and I do hope that you have enjoyed reading the progress reports about our Musketeers.

Day 104 - July 10, 2005

This is a day that both Graham and I have been dreading. Every now and then, a baby comes along in a litter that really makes themselves part of your family and your heart right from the start. In this case, it is D'Artagnan. He is such a very cuddly, loving boy and will purr for anyone who touches him. It's not often that Graham gets attached to the babies, as that is always my "job", however, D'Artagnan really worked his way into Graham's affections and once he had, that was that. All week, we had been wondering how we could swap him and Aramis over so that when Gemma came to collect him we could slip Aramis into the carrier and would she actually know? It is so difficult losing our man but what does make this so much easier is that he is going to be so happy with Gemma, Craig and fur kid, Cleo, who is another Schimmel baby. Not only is D'Artagnan going to have the company of another Schimmel baby, but he is going to be loved, spoilt rotten and cherished for the rest of his life. This is not the first time that a Schimmel baby has gone to live in a home where this is already a Schimmel baby but how lucky we feel that D'Artagnan is going to Gemma's. When she arrived to collect him at 8:30 this morning, we even offered her Sheridans, Aramis, and our pet crab instead but fortunately, Gemma had the good sense to refuse. As this is D'Artagnan's special day, the only photos in the entry are of him, not that he wanted to have his photo taken because every time I tried, instead of staying still, he would come straight to me to be picked up and cuddled in typical D'Artagnan fashion.

Even though we still have 2 Musketeers remaining, Aramis has now become Tia Lusso and Athos will be leaving in about 3 weeks time. So what we will now do is stop the Musketeer's diary entry here, however, when Athos leaves us, we will be adding our "final entry" which will close off the diary once and for all. Obviously, like all of our kitten diaries, it will remain on our web site permanently.

Day 103 - July 9, 2005
As stated in the Planets' diary, this wasn't an easy day as Mars and Saturn both left me which was very sad. Most of the day was spent preparing for their journeys to their new homes. The Musketeers did have some lovely cuddles today though by Brad, Debbie, Jacob and Freddy who are going to be the owners of 2 future Schimmel babies. Fortunately, the Musketeers did behave themselves, as did all of our adult cats and none of them embarrassed me thank goodness. Obviously with everything going on today, it was extremely busy, hence no photos again. All 3 Musketeers were in very loving, clingy moods today and I didn't have the heart to tell them that tomorrow morning, they will be just 2 Musketeers.

Day 102 - July 8, 2005
It was one of those days again where the Musketeers were much better behaved than the Planets in the respect that when I had a lot of paperwork to get through in preparation for the babies that are leaving us this weekend, they left me alone to get on with it. As it's been quite a bit cooler for the last 2 days, we've had the central heating on in the house and the Musketeers have absolutely loved it and spent a lot of their time either sleeping on the radiator bed or on the back of the lounge near the radiator. Mind you, the cooler weather still didn't stop them from going outside in the cat run, even when the ground was all wet. They really do love it out there and they have competitions every single day to see which baby can climb to the top of the run the fastest. Aramis always wins as climbing seems to be her forte. She is definitely as agile as her mum. There are no photos today because my entire day has been spent doing paperwork however I'm hoping to have photos in tomorrow's entry.

Day 101 - July 7, 2005
Last night was one of those nights where the cats/kittens were banned from the bedroom and the human parents in the house were rather irritated to say the least. Let me assure you, it takes an awful lot for the babies or adult cats to get me annoyed. As per normal, Graham went upstairs to the bedroom first while I did the litter trays, boys, food/water bowls etc. etc. He was on the phone, when I came in to take the mobiles into the room which we'd left downstairs. I sat them on the bookshelf, and next thing I hear is Graham (who is still on the phone) say, oh shit, someone has just gone to the toilet on the bed. Sure enough, while his back was turned, Aramis (who else!!!) had got up onto the bed, sat right beside where Graham was lying and then did a wee! I could not believe it because obviously at the moment, bedding can't be washed as I'm still waiting for Creda to repair our 8 month old dryer that has broken down for the 2nd time since purchasing it. If anyone is ever looking to buy a dryer, I personally would not ever recommend any Creda product because they are rubbish, as is their after service! Anyway, while Graham was on the phone, we then stripped the bed, and remade it, new sheets, duvet cover, the lot. I then came back downstairs to finish off the cat chores for the evening, Mo was also still downstairs and we heard some rather horrific expletives from upstairs. Yes, it was Graham cursing one of the cats again. With a roll of my eyes, I went back upstairs only to be told in no uncertain terms that Sambuca had just jumped up onto the bed and sprayed all over it! (for those of you who are not aware, some entire queens do most definitely spray and in our house, 3 of them all spray!) So again, the entire bedding was changed and at this point, I so far have 2 duvet covers and numerous sheets, all piled in the laundry basket. I have to say, I was fuming at this stage and it's also at this point that I am reminded in no uncertain terms whose cats they actually are :( After the bed is remade, the cats and kittens all banned and the door firmly closed, I went back downstairs, finally finished off everything I had to do, took the last lot of litter out to the bin, turned the fish tank lights off and went upstairs. After about 1/2 an hour, I started to get cold, got in under the duvets to discover that Sambuca, who had somehow escaped from being removed from the room, had climbed in under the flippin' duvet and sprayed again! For the 3rd time that night, all the bedding was changed and even I, who can smile at anything wrong the cats do, didn't want to see another cat or kitten for the rest of the evening.
I would just like to add our hearts go all those involved in this morning's explosions in London and our prayers and thoughts are with the families of casualties and those who lost their lives.

Day 100 - July 6, 2005
There really is very little to say for today's entry because the majority of yesterday was spent on our aquariums which is very time consuming and also means that the babies and our adult cats can't be downstairs at the same time, for fairly obvious reasons. As a result, everyone was confined to the upstairs part of the house, all except for Kahlua who was happy just to sleep on my chair in the back room. What did surprise me was that the babies, particularly the Musketeers, were as good as gold when they were upstairs. I did think that because their freedom was taken away from them for a short while that they might have started to destroy things but all they did was curl up and snooze so that was quite a relief.

Day 99 - July 5, 2005
Aramis has now learnt a new trick...........unfortunately. Whenever she sees me walking around the house, she springs up in the air, and tries to grab me just above my knees which naturally makes me trip up. She doesn't do it to anyone else in the house, only me and she thinks that her new trick makes her look very cute. Of course it does and I'm not sure what her reasoning is behind doing this but every single time she does it, I stop wherever I am, pick her up and have cuddles with her. I would rather think that she was doing it to get my attention as opposed to trying to make me have an accident. Of course, the only slight problem with this is that she has now also taught D'Artagnan to do the same thing, so whereas yesterday and last evening, it was Aramis only, now I have 2 of them who are at it. I'm wondering how long it will take before they teach Athos as well.

Day 98 - July 4, 2005 (14 weeks old today!)
The Musketeers are now 14 weeks old and seem to think that they own the house. For days now, they have quite literally done whatever they wanted and just like our adults, if there is something that they want, as far as they are concerned it is theirs. Just like the Planets, none of our Musketeers have noticed that 2 of the gang is missing as Venus & Jupiter left last night. They have just carried on as if everything was the same. How quickly they forget! Even though the weather has been very temperamental lately, and not always as warm as it should be, the babies have still been out and about in the cat run, climbing up everything and talking to the boys in their outside houses. Every morning when I open up the boys at about 8am, Aramis & Athos come tearing out into the cat run to watch the big even and to see which boy comes out of his house first. I don't know why but they are really fascinated with these "creatures" that look and sound like them, but don't live in the house. In fact, I don't even think that either of them are aware that one of these "creatures" is in fact their dad :) We should have normal entries by tomorrow with photos again as the missing camera has fortunately now been located.
