Day 69 - July 17, 2004
There isn't actually an entry for today as I was out for the majority of the day, I can't really tell you a great deal about what the R's did. They are all doing really well though and were left in hubby's care for the day and when I returned early evening, they were bouncing around and playing games and did appear happy to see me which was really lovely.

Day 68 - July 16, 2004
It's a relatively quick entry for today as I have an awful lot to get through and there's nowhere near enough time. The R's slept downstairs again last night and seemed to cope with it extremely well. As soon as I come down first thing in the morning, I open up the door to the cat run and all the babies shoot straight out into the run for some games which is really lovely to see. Rosie appears to have lost a little bit of weight this week, after the vaccinations which I'm keeping a very close eye on. I shall be putting her on some Hills AD to try and get the weight back on. She's fine in herself, playing with the others and there's no apparent problem at all. The other factor of course is that both Rosie and Gino have a totally different build to the rest of the litter as they are much finer, more slender cats whereas the rest of the litter are a lot more solid build and are more well balanced so it does make it very difficult. Compared to Gino, Rosie looks perfectly normal, but compared to someone like Daisy, there is a big difference. Chances are, I'm just being concerned unnecessarily so I will see how we get on with her over the next day or two.

Day 67 - July 15, 2004
There was a change in routine for the R's last night. For the first time ever, they spent their night sleeping downstairs, not with the other cats, but in the same room they spend the day in. As the Potter's will soon be coming out of the kitten room and having access to the hallway upstairs, I needed to get the R's used to sleeping down here now of an evening. I was really pleased this morning when I got up and came downstairs to see that all was well and no one had been stressed by the change in routine so it really was such a relief. In one way, it's much easier for me now as well because I don't have to keep moving the R's and all their equipment upstairs an downstairs on a daily basis. From next week onwards, the door in this room will be left open permanently so that the R's can mingle with the other cats and have the whole run of the downstairs and start to get them used to the dogs. At the moment I'm still sitting on the "other" office chair in here because the babies have stolen my chair and now use it as a permanent bed which is slightly annoying because I love that tattered old chair and it's so much more comfortable that what I'm sitting on now. Unfortunately, there are no photos of the R's today because when I finished downloading the photos of the Potters, the camera batteries died so they are still on charge.

Day 66 - July 14, 2004
The R's have been creating havoc for quite a few hours this morning. They were running around all over the place and getting into all sorts of mischief. I fed them their breakfast quite a bit later this morning as I am trying to cut down to 3 moist/wet meals per day. I only fed them 3 wet meals yesterday and was pleased to see that at the times they would have had other wet meals, all the R's were eating quite a lot of the dry kitten biscuits so it's really good as the dry biscuits are much better for them. Poor Daisy had a little mishap with the CD rack today because as soon as I put the babies downstairs with me, they went a bit berserk and she climbed right up the CD rack and I heard a crash only to find her on the floor sitting on top of a CD which she had knocked out of the rack. Undeterred, she started climbing straight back up, only to fall off again with yet another CD except this time, it landed on her head. Fortunately the CD's are very light and it was only her pride that was injured. I'm happy to say that she learnt her lesson after the 2nd fall. Rosie was being a great big sulk this morning and refused to come down the stairs. I had called all the other babies downstairs and they all came running down so I could pick them up and carry them into the room with me. Rosie however, came down 3 stairs and then just sat there and cried. So I called her again and she still refused to budge. Naturally I had to go up the stairs, pick her up, and carry her down to bring her into the back room with the rest of her sisters and her brother. New owners will be pleased to know that I'm making quite a bit of progress with all the R's paperwork and shall be sending off the babies registration papers on Monday so hopefully they will be back with me by the time you all collect your little gems. Gino absolutely petrified her brother and sisters today. I had given the R's some sliced turkey on a plate (a rare treat) and they loved it, however, it had come almost to the end of the plate and poor Rolly dropped the piece that she had in her mouth, so instead of picking it back up, she decided to try and steal the rather large piece that Gino had. Gino swiped Rolly really hard and then let out the most ferocious growl I've ever heard from a kitten and it terrified everyone so much that all the R's leapt into the air and bolted behind some tubs and sat there shaking. Right or wrong, Gino was not going to share her food with anyone and it's the first time I'd ever seen one of the R's do this.

Day 65 - July 13, 2004
I was so pleased this morning that when I brought the R's downstairs, within minutes of being down here, they were climbing all over the chair, me, the desk top, running around outside, even climbing up the cat run. They all ate breakfast very heartily and it's such a huge relief to see that they are all doing so well after their vaccinations yesterday. Even last night, they're weren't particularly active and the effects of the vaccine obviously still hadn't worn off because the babies weren't overly hungry and were still very tired. Thank goodness it's now been done and over with. The 2nd vaccinations won't be anywhere near as bad although knowing me, I will still worry when the time comes. The babies, (Danny and Gino in particular) have been very rough in their games with each other this morning. I heard an awful lot of squeals and on more than 3 occasions had to take someone's ear out of Danny or Gino's mouth.

Day 64 - July 12, 2004
Today was the day I'd been dreading............the R's first set of vaccinations which are for: Cat Flu (FCV & FCR) as well as FIE and FeLV. We had a reasonably early appointment at the vets so were actually back home by about 10am. The surgery was packed with barking dogs and singing cats but our babies were as good as gold and attracted quite a lot of attention from the other clients. They sat up in their carrier (Tia was in another carrier) and watched with open eyes at everything that was going on. When it came time to vaccinate them, each baby was removed from the carrier, given a health examination before being vaccinated. There wasn't a single cry from any of the babies, they were just so well behaved and I was so incredibly proud of them. Once we arrived back home, our little ones were incredibly subdued but that's to be expected and I'm not actually expecting them to become very lively again until later on this evening. For the first hour after our return, they wouldn't even come out of the carrier. I fed them lunch at 12 noon and had to physically take them out to make sure they would eat. Fortunately, every single baby had their lunch time meal so I was very relieved as I didn't want the vaccine to cause them to lose their appetites. It was a very hectic weekend and I'm really pleased it's over now to be honest. All of our little gems now have wonderful new homes waiting for them and I know they will all be loved and be very happy. I'm going to make sure that I make the most of my remaining 4 weeks with them.
Photos taken yesterday afternoon.

Day 63 - July 11, 2004 (9 weeks old today!)
Well our darlings are now 9 week's old today which just serves to remind me that I have them for just another short 4 weeks but as I find that rather depressing, I won't go into it right now. I slept very badly last night and have a bad headache and am feeling very tired as a result. Today has been an incredibly busy day for both the R's and for myself as we've had some of the babies' owners around today so it has been very hectic. The R's were behaving themselves in front of their new owners thank goodness. All 6 babies still play very rough with each other sometimes and Danny really is still the biggest thug of all. They have completely taken over my chair downstairs in the office now and I can no longer sit on it. Even though I put their vet bed on the other chair, they won't sleep anywhere but on mine. It's not unusual now during the day for me to be sitting right on the very edge of the chair because the R's won't let me sit down. They really are such little sweethearts though and the older they get, the more cuddly they get. Our babies are booked in for the first set of vaccines tomorrow which scares me a great deal. I always hate it when the little ones have their vaccines for the first time and they will be watched like hawks for the first 48 hours following their vet visit. I think what makes it even worse this time around is that my normal vet is on holidays for a week which means he won't be seeing them, it will be his locum whom I'm never met. I will feel much better though by about Wednesday, when everything will be fine and my babies will have the extra protection that they need at this age for their immune system. It also means that I can start to look at letting the babies mingle with the rest of the household from about Thursday onwards.
