Kitten Diaries
Tia Maria
May 2004
Tia Maria's 2nd Kitten Diary - May 2004 to august 2004
Day 90 - August 7, 2004
This is a very short entry because it's been an extremely upsetting day for me as both Danny and Rolly have now left me to go home with their new owners. While it's wonderful and exciting for their owners, it's very sad for me and part of the day has been spent in tears. Many thanks to Marcelle and Jim for the gorgeous flowers which was very unexpected and they are truly lovely. (I'd rather have my baby back though guys if you want to swap). As usual, the R's have had the run of the house all day long and have had some wonderful games on the lounge and in the cat run. Gino has actually been walking around the house this afternoon, looking for her sisters and brother and has been crying which is really heartbreaking.

Day 89 - August 6, 2004
I truly thought I was more than ready emotionally for today but as it turns out, I'm not! The first thing on my mind this morning when I woke up was that my darling Rosie is leaving me later this afternoon. Even though I will still be left with the other 5 R's, the loss of even one is incredibly sad and I don't know how on earth I'm going to get through today. I am wondering though, if Saul and Monika would notice if I slipped Tia Maria in the carrier with Rosie as well :) Her calling is sending me up the wall at the moment. My babies have been really good little babies today. Even Danny has not spent any time chewing my fingers and playing/clawing other body parts. Chances are that their mother's singing has finally gotten to them as well! Just like yesterday, from early this morning, the house was opened up downstairs so the R's could go wherever they wanted and just like yesterday, right at this precise point in time, I'm not exactly sure who is where but as I can't hear any complaints, I know they are all fine. Oddly enough, Tia has actually quietened down a bit since opening the door as she has gone roaming throughout the house, or at least we are now getting 15 minutes breaks of silence in between the screaming. Both dogs have been inside all day and I'm really pleased that neither Tia nor the babies even care, or perhaps they simply haven't noticed them. There's 3 photos below which probably all look the same to you, however, they are the last photos I will have taken of all 6 R's together at the same time, there are also 2 individual photos of my darling Rosie as I always like to take one of two pics of each baby on the day that they leave me.

Day 88 - August 5, 2004
Tia is in full call and is absolutely doing my head in. In actual fact, Tia is screaming, Cacao is upstairs in full call, also screaming, Ice is screaming back at both girls from outside so I really could do with a pair of ear muffs right now. The fact that I've had very little sleep because Amaretto gave birth last night is not helping either. The R's always seem to know when I'm feeling shattered because that is when they will usually play up and create havoc more than ever before and today has been no exception. However, they all got a massive shock when I suddenly opened the kitten room door allowing our other cats access to "their room" and allowing them access to the rest of the house. They were rather surprised when Sambuca suddenly walked in! Once they realised they had all this freedom though, they certainly made the most of it and all 6 R's just wandered wherever they wanted. I must admit that for part of the day, even I was unsure as which R was where in the downstairs part of the house, but then I also have the Potters "roaming free" in the upstairs (and downstairs front entrance) and Amaretto's babies up in our bedroom so I don't know whether I'm coming or going today. I have no idea what Rosie did to herself however she had food stuck to her fur in a great blob. She obviously knew that Saul and Monika are picking her up tomorrow and is making more work for me :) The babies have really enjoyed their free reign today and so have I to be honest. I figure at their age now, they should be able to well and truly cope with everything so they were thrown right in it today but it's worked out very well indeed.

Day 87 - August 4, 2004
As I stated in the Potter's diary, it's been a very busy day, particularly as Amaretto is due tomorrow. The R's had some fabulous cuddles today with a lovely lady named Sally who popped over to visit them. Most of our R's behaved themselves although Danny was his typical self! I'm actually really starting to pity Marcelle and Jim who may be in for quite a bit of a shock when Danny moves in with them. Early this morning, the R's were all playing very rough games with each other and having a lot of fun out in the cat run as per usual and I must say that for the majority of the afternoon (the hottest part of the day) they have actually spent sleeping so it's been very peaceful thank goodness which has given me the chance to get a few things done although I still seem to be very behind with things at the moment. All the arrangements are now in place for my babies to leave me which is rather sad for me but obviously very exciting for their new owners.

Day 86 - August 3, 2004
The R's had plenty of exercise and fun last night that should not have happened. When hubby came downstairs first thing this morning, there was a mess everywhere. Books, papers, everything off the shelves, the room looked like a bomb had struck. He then noticed that Draio, our male Chinchilla was sitting on top of the chin cages!! It appears that one of the cage doors had been inadvertently left open and poor Draio had spent the entire evening being chased throughout the entire room by the R's! How he survived, I truly do not know but then Chinchilla's move incredibly quickly. Thank goodness they didn't catch him and Draio was certainly none the worse for the incident. I think he was rather relieved to be put back in his cage though, much to the R's immense disappointment. You would have thought that all that exercise would have tired them out but that wasn't to be the case as they have been tearing around all day today and have done very little sleeping indeed. Tia was put out in the main part of the house for a while today so that she could have a break from the R's.

Day 85 - August 2, 2004
We had an appointment at our vets at 9am for the R's 2nd set of vaccinations. The appointment went really well and all of the R's behaved themselves beautifully. Whereas with the first set of vaccines, the babies were rather lethargic for 24 hours following, this time around it has made no difference whatsoever. As soon as we arrived back from the vets, they were out of the carrier and tearing around the cat run, playing like lunatics. Their appetites have also been very good following the vaccinations which I'm happy about. As usual, Andy did a terrific job and none of the babies have any swelling, lumps or redness where the needle went in. It's an extremely hectic week this week as our R's are leaving us which means spending quite a lot of time having the paperwork and kitten packs in order, as well as arranging times and days with their new owners to collect them. Speaking of which, the R's registration papers were only sent off today as I wanted to wait until the last minute for any colour changes or uncertainties, however, this means that the Transfer of Ownership papers will not be back in time for when the R's are collected. So what we've done is include a signed letter in our paperwork explaining that we are still waiting for the reg. papers to come back and new owners are more than welcome to telephone the GCCF to make sure their new babies registration is all in order. This should hopefully suffice and with a bit of luck, the paperwork will be sent back to us within 1-2 weeks and we can forward all Transfer papers on to the new owners. I'm amazed at how quickly the time has passed since the R's were born and still find it incredible that they are leaving me now. I am desperately hoping that because the Potters will be downstairs with me as soon as the R's go, that having the Potters with me will help me take my mind off the R's leaving.

Day 84 - August 1, 2004 (12 weeks old today!)
I can't believe that we have now reached the 12 weeks of age mark. This is the beginning of a very sad week for me because it's my last week with the R's. The first of my babies to go will be Rosie who is leaving me on Friday to go and share her home with Saul and Monika. I totally hate this week and can only hope that is passes by very slowly. The R's are having their 2nd vaccinations early tomorrow morning so I do hope that they behave themselves. All the babies have been very "wild" all morning. Driving me mad in fact and I was really relieved when they finally decided to settle down and have a sleep. As usual, they have spent an awful lot of time outside in the cat run. I am always amazed at how our babies learn from their mum and from each other when it comes to how they play and do things. For example, the R's were all in the cat run today and Daisy, as usual, was up the tree. Now Daisy can climb the tree very well, however, when it comes to getting down, she really doesn't manage it very well at all. She always climbs down the tree forward, gets to about 3/4 of the way from the ground, starts running down the tree and jumps. Anyway, she went up the tree today and Gino saw her and ran straight up after her, however when Gino came back down the tree, she came down backwards so that she could control her speed and not lose her grip. I was intrigued to see that as Gino was climbing down, Daisy was watching very intently, and once Gino was on the ground, Daisy turned around and climbed down the tree backwards, copying exactly what Gino had done. It's the first time Daisy had ever climbed down that way. I always find it so remarkable when our little ones do something new like that. There's no photos for today's entry as I just have not had the time unfortunately.
