Tia Maria's 1st Kitten Diary - December 2003 to march 2004
Day 76 - March 1, 2004
The first thing I saw when I changed the calendar over to March this morning was all the dates that were filled in with the new owners picking up their babies which was rather sad. I have a feeling that this time will come way too soon for me. The Charmed Ones are doing really well and of an evening, they now put themselves to bed, unlike the Orientals. When it comes to about 11pm, the babies get shut back in the Kitten Room for the evening so they can sleep and whereas before I used to have to run around collecting babies and trying to put them in the door, without letting others escape, the Charmed Ones all settle down of their own accord and just wait for me to put the Ori's in. It's nice to know that they have settled into a routine. They've been downstairs since about 9am this morning and have had quite a good run around. At the moment they are all sound asleep on the lounge but will no doubt be waking up soon for yet another meal. By now, all of the Charmed Ones new owners should have received their "Welcome" letter in the post, and should have a list of the babies foods and settling in requirements. It seems to make it so much more final once they have been sent out. I obviously spoke too soon as Piper is now awake and sitting on my lap but perhaps she will settle down and go back to sleep. In typical Siamese fashion, all 4 girls, now cry/talk whenever they want attention or to be picked up and it really is a lovely sound.

Day 75 - February 29, 2004
The entry didn't go online yesterday as it wasn't a great weekend due to the fact that we had problems with Calisto and I wasn't well yesterday so it is a rather short entry without any photos. The Charmed Ones spent the majority of the day downstairs yesterday. As usual they had some great games playing chase with each other on the lounge. For some reason though, when the girls are downstairs, their favourite sleeping spot is on one of the dining room chairs. I think it's because they figure no one can see them on there under the table. The Siamese are getting used to the dogs now and although they don't actually venture close to them, neither do they run in fear every time the dogs move about. They simply just open their eyes and sit up a bit and watch what the dogs are doing. We had the bedroom door open last night for a little while so the girls came in to visit us, however when it was time to close the door, no one wanted to leave. As soon as I thought I had got them all out, I discovered that Piper was still in there, so I picked her up, opened the door to put her out and as I've done that, the other 3 came running back in so for the next 10 minutes I was trying to put the girls out the door and they were just coming straight back in. I soon learnt that the best way to get them out is to close the door with them in the bedroom, because naturally then they all run to the door wanting to get out because they don't like being shut up in our bedroom, they prefer to choose whether or not they want to be in there with the door open.

Day 74 - February 28, 2004
The babies totally just about destroyed the Kitten Room last night. When I opened the door this morning I couldn't believe the mess that was all over the place. Not the best of days to do this as I have quite a bit I need to get through today so that was 2 hours taken out of my day restoring and cleaning the room. I did manage to solve one mystery that's been bugging me for weeks now. Every morning, we would get up and find tiny paw prints in the bath tub. I kept insisting it must have been the mums as there's no way the babies could get in the tub and if they did, surely they were too small to climb back out. This morning however, I caught the culprit in action. It was Paige! I was upstairs and saw her in the tub, running from one end to the other like a lunatic. Cacao went over to the tub and sat on the edge watching her while Paige kept trying to entice Cacao in with her. They all stayed upstairs this morning until about noon as they went to sleep before I had a chance to bring them down. Three of our girls have all now made it past the 1 kilogram mark, we're just waiting for Paige to catch up with her bigger sisters.

Day 73 - February 27, 2004
When I went into the Kitten Room this morning to open it up and give the Charmed Ones their breakfast, I was astounded to see that all girls were sleeping on top of the work top with Cacao. Normally they sleep on the ottoman and it's the first time they have ever slept somewhere else. It's been a reasonably quiet day today. I had a wonderful time with Jacqueline (Pru's new owner) and Caryll (Gabby's new owner). They had come to visit their girls but I must say that Pru wasn't being very compliant. Pru wasn't too sociable at first as all she wanted to do was play about, and then all she wanted to do was sleep. All 4 girls have been very good today and there hasn't been too much rough play amongst any of them. Naturally this means that they will creating havoc at a much later point this afternoon/evening. At the moment I have Paige, Pru and Phoebe all on my lap. They had a nice little visit from Uncle Ice again today as Ice just loves the baby and thinks they are fascinating. Fortunately, the babies love him just as much. A lot of my morning was spent sorting out paperwork for the new owners and it really amazes me at how much time is actually spent on the "boring" stuff. I would much rather be spending that time with my babies or sitting down for lovely chats with new owners (like today).

Day 72 - February 26, 2004
Pru is totally fascinated by the ironing board and the iron. The girls were all running around in the lounge room today and I was doing the ironing and Pru just sat there on the edge of the lounge, watching everything I did. Of course I then had to keep stopping to go over to scratch her behind the ears which did mean the ironing took a lot longer than it would normally. Phoebe is still the loudest of all the Siamese babies and she is still a very demanding little girl. All the babies just adore cuddles and attention, but Phoebe will sit right in front of you and either squeal or cry until she is patted and stroked. They are all still eating very well but do seem to have more of a preference for their dry food now than anything else. Paige & Piper have had quite a lot of fun chasing each other across of the back of the lounge today and then playing along the window still to see who could push the other sister off first. The babies all now respond very well when they are called which I'm really pleased about. Mainly because of an evening, the girls know it will be "weighing" time, so they disappear down the stairs but fortunately now I just call to them from the top and they all come bounding up which saves me having to go up and down the stairs to bring them back up to weigh them. They are all sound asleep at the moment, Phoebe is on the back of the lounge with the Ori babies, whereas Pru, Piper & Paige are all asleep on one of the dining room chairs.

Day 71 - February 25, 2004
This is the Charmed One's first full day without mum. The girls were brought downstairs here with me this morning at 9.30am and the mums stayed upstairs. It's good for the girls to learn that mum won't always be around and it means they can explore at their own leisure and do whatever they want. The girls are eating a lot more dry food now and haven't been as interested in their "wet" food as much as they used to be. They do still eat it, but they don't eat the same amounts that they used to. As a result I'm still keeping an eye on their weights but I don't think it's a major concern. I'm possibly worrying for nothing but I am going to make up some of my "glop" this afternoon to see if that will entice them to eat a bit more. Paige & Pru had some play time with Ice this morning. Ice had been hiding out here in the back room and I hadn't noticed him when I first started bringing the babies down. As soon as I had put Paige & Pru on the floor, Ice came straight over to them for sniffs and grooming. He's so good with the little babies and it was really lovely to watch. The girls were most disappointed when I did eventually move him. Pru is like her mum, a real little mother hen. Quite often when everyone is asleep, if she wakes up briefly, she stops to groom the head and ears of any babies who are lying next to her. Phoebe is still the most demanding of all babies. She is a real attention seeker and will look up at you and cry softly until she is picked up and cuddled.

Day 70 - February 24, 2004 (10 weeks old today)
I'm happy to say that we've made it to the 10 week old stage with little or no problems at all. The Charmed Ones are growing at an alarming rate and will be sadly leaving us in 3-4 weeks time. We didn't bring the girls downstairs until much later this afternoon as we had an appointment today which meant we'd be gone for quite some time and I didn't see the point in bringing them all down for an hour or so, only to have to take them back up for a few hours and then to bring them down again when we arrived home. This being the case, up until this point, it's been a relatively quiet day for me, apart from Tia's screaming which is heard through closed doors! The girls now have new entertainment in their lives and I call it "Chin TV". It's very funny to watch and the girls get a lot of amusement from it. When our daughter puts her 2 Chinchilla's out in the cat run every afternoon for some exercise, the Charmed Ones all sit and the door watching the Chins run around, jump, chase each other and all you see are 4 little heads bobbing up and down at the glass, peering in fascination at these creatures that move so swiftly. It's better than anything else you can watch on TV! They had all gained weight last night except from Piper, however it's no concern as Piper is so big anyway but as usual we'll be carefully checking Piper's weight tonight to see if there is an increase. I finally located some of the girl's mice which had been missing. There was one up in the food bowl on the cat stand and there is no way the kittens could have reached up there, so one of the mum's must have done it. There was one buried in a litter tray, another behind a litter tray and one in our bedroom. The babies are much happier now they have their mice back. I think I am going to have to stock up on them though at the rate they are either losing or destroying them.
