Day 25 - February 15, 2007

I am delighted to say that after a lovely visit with Sarah and her friend, whose name, for the life of me I can not remember sorry :(, that Desert Orchid, our Seal Point girl now has an amazing new home waiting for her in April. Sarah and I have been in touch via email for a while now and I can honestly say that Sarah is even more amazing in person than she is at the other end of a computer. There wasn't a cat in our home that didn't want to be stroked or held by Sarah and more importantly, for the first time since I can remember, not a single cat in the home embarrassed us during our visitors' stay. Even Sheridans who came inside to be admired didn't once spray, nor did he try to mate any girls, so the Schimmel gang actually made a good first impression for a change :) I still feel awful about not remembering her friends' name yet I remember the names of 2 of the cats he mentioned to me which says it all really! But what a great guy.............very knowledgeable about feeding, and dogs. Once Sarah was able to extract herself from the rest of the fur kids, it was time to meet Tia Lusso and her Racers and Tia Lusso did us proud yet again. Not once was she bothered that "strangers" were here to admire her children and handle them, she was more than happy to show herself off and let her Racers wander around the room and practice running (very badly I might add), and flopping over quite a bit. It took quite a while to separate Phar Lap, Shergar, and Red Rum from the rest of the gang and the reason those 3 were put on the bed was because both boys already have loving homes waiting, Phar Lap will live with Pauline, Shergar will live with Bev, and Red Rum is still the baby that I feel will share her home with Ian and Mary. Mind you, at the moment, Red Rum and Kingston Town are looking an awful lot alike, so much so that I really have to study them to make sure I know which is which, the similarity is that close and they both appear to be Blue Tabby Point girls. I guess in reality, this means that our 2 available girls are Kingston Town and Sea Biscuit. Anyway, back to our visit, well Desert Orchid seemed to have a special "thing" for Sarah and in this situation I do believe that Desert Orchid chose Sarah from the start, not the other way around and I won't mention anything about Sarah's betting habits ;) It really was so lovely to meet them both and yet again, we are 200% certain that another Schimmel baby has found the best home in the world and it will be interesting to see, when the time comes, what Desert Orchid thinks of the rest of Sarah's fur children and I do think she is going to look tiny in comparison to them, but being a Seal Point, and being a female, she will be able to hold her own with the best of them.

As for me, well, things are no different health wise and I am just counting down the minutes until the doctors appointment tomorrow so this can be sorted out.

Day 24 - February 14, 2007
This is not a long entry as it's the first day I have been able to spend time out of bed. I was up at 0800, managed to bleach all the trays, do the floors and all the surfaces in my room, but even that took forever. No matter what I'm doing I have to keep stopping every 1/2 hour - 1 hour as I'm just so exhausted. I have an appointment on Friday at the doctors which is the earliest I could get so provided I don't drop dead between now and then, hopefully entries will resume as per normal. As you can see by some of the photos below, Kingston Town and Red Rum have decided that they will eat when they want to, and that time was now. I did try to explain to them that I would rather they held off until they were 4 weeks old but they were having none of it. I guess that slowly and surely, our little Racers are starting to grow up. Today's the first day I've been in the kitten room doing all the feedings etc. and it has been nice to reacquaint myself with the babies again. They now go wherever they want in the room, and while Lucy keeps a watchful eye over them, she is happy for them to wander about, although if she feels they have gone far enough, she still insists on picking them up and putting them back in bed.

Day 23 - February 13, 2007
I couldn't have done an entry yesterday as I spent the entire day in bed quite ill. Today hasn't been a great deal better and Graham has been looking after all of the cats and the babies since yesterday morning. I got up at 1030 this morning and even that was a struggle. Indications are that the urinary infection has returned and I'm hoping tomorrow I can get an appointment at the doctors because this can not go on at all. I managed to feed Lucy and weigh the babies at lunch time today but that has been the only time I've been in the kitten room as Graham has been feeding Lucy and checking on the babies prior to this point. There's no photos today as I just do not have the energy to take them and sort them out but hopefully tomorrow I will be feeling a bit more normal. The babies seem to be doing just fine, according to their weights anyway, and they are certainly starting to explore much more now and it's not unusual to see the Racers wander off the bed and start to stroll around the room.

Day 22 - February 12, 2007
There is no entry for today.

Day 21 - February 11, 2007

Our Racers are now 3 weeks of age and I still do not know where the time is going but it seems to be flying by far too quickly for my liking. Having said that, I'm currently waiting for Sambuca or Amaretto to come into call as they are due to be sent on her honeymoon with Sheridans. I am rather relieved to say that for the past 24 hours, Lucy has not moved her Racers at all and has kept them on the bed where they should be, next to the radiator and under the window. I'm actually hoping that this coming week I can actually find some time somewhere to sort out this kitten room once and for all as it's still not the way I want it and hasn't been since we first moved in. Desert Orchid still hasn't quite reached the 300 gram mark yet however she's not far off it and she continues to gain weight steadily each day, as do the rest of the Racers so the milk bar is obviously extremely plentiful. I've now put Lucy back on 1/2 tin of a/d per day is this an extremely rich source of commercial food and will hopefully ensure that she does not lose any weight herself. All 6 of our Racers are becoming much braver now and actually go for walks off the bed and around the room although they don't go too far yet, but every single one of them is more than happy to start exploring and they are extremely confident when they're away from the bed which I'm thrilled about.
