Week 13
Tia Lusso's 1st Kitten Diary - April 2006 to July
Day 89 - July 7, 2006

I can't believe that amidst all the house moving that the time has come for my Condiments to all leave me for their new homes where they will spend the rest of their lives with their loving, new families. This has been a difficult day because whilst it has been so busy packing up the house and pulling down stud housing and cat runs, I had to keep stopping what I was doing so I could have cuddles with our babies because today was my last chance to be with them. This afternoon, Caroline and her sister came to take Pepper and Vinegar home with them and I did find this incredibly hard because Pepper and I had become extremely close and it was so very sad to see her go. When they were put in the cat carrier I did have to smile though as Vinegar just settled down straight away to go to sleep whereas Pepper sat up, looking out through the carrier doors, perfectly happy, while she plonked her left paw on her brother's head, making herself very comfortable. I said my goodbyes to the babies and shortly afterwards, Linda and Peter arrived to take Salt (and Braveheart) home with them. Again, this was a really sad moment and she looked so tiny in her carrier. Mind you, the carrier was very large as I had previously recommended that a big one be purchased to save having to buy another carrier in a year's time. I am just so relieved that she left with her "sister" because it means that she has company that she knows and loves and hopefully, all 3 Condiments will deal with the stress of leaving their home much easier as they have their littermates with them.

It would appear that we have now come to the end of yet another kitten diary and I can say that the last couple of week's have just been so exhausting and I would never recommend moving house at the same time that babies are leaving you. The only good thing about it was the fact that I have been so incredibly busy that I have not had the chance to actually dwell on how quiet the house is now that they have gone. I would like to say a huge thank you to Caroline, as well as Linda and Peter for accepting Schimmel babies into their home and their lives, and for the love and care that I know our Condiments will receive with their new families. The only aspect that makes babies leaving a little easier is the fact that their new families have been carefully selected and they are the perfect families for our little babies.

Day 86 - July 4, 2006
Yet another day of house moving, no diary photos and a miniscule entry! It's now been 24 hours since the vaccinations were given and I'm delighted to report that as per usual, we have had no side effects at all which is a great relief. Last night, when the temperature had dropped, all 6 babies spent hours out in the cat run playing chase games and having the time of their lives. Normally, I "put them to bed" at around 10:30pm which means making sure they are all in their back room, closing the door and also closing the door to the cat run, however they were having such fun last night that I let them stay up late for once and didn't actually put them all to bed until midnight.

Day 85 - July 3, 2006
Photos are definitely impossible at the moment but I did want to put a short entry online today because as you know, the babies' had their last set of vaccinations this morning and were check over by our vet for the last time. I was really delighted with how well behaved the babies were, even as they were being examined and being injected. The only baby who let out any sort of protest was Pepper. Mad Max on the other hand couldn't wait to get out of the carrier and get on the vet's table. Vinegar had just been done and Mad Max was right at the front of the carrier, he watched what was happening to Vinegar and then started pulling at the door so he could get out. When that didn't work, he thought he would try to gnaw his way out through the carrier bars! On the whole though, I'm really happy with how well it went this morning. The babies are all zonked out at the moment which is due to the heat more than the vaccinations however we have the air conditioning on in the back room so that we can keep them as cool as possible.

Day 84 - July 2, 2006
No entry today due to house move.

Day 83 - July 1, 2006
There is no entry for today as I was at the Wiltshire & District Cat Club show with Toussaint so the babies were left in Graham's care for the day and they were just fine. They all enjoyed their fish meal that Graham cooked for them this morning while I was gone. It was an incredibly long day for me however Toussaint did very well and I was thrilled with her results.
