Kitten Diaries
Sambuca
September 2005
Sambuca's 2nd Kitten Diary - September 2005 - December 2005
Sambuca November 3, 2005 - Day 55
Little Thieves! That is what my Berries (and their mother) are! This morning, I thought I would have some late breakfast and I got myself some mackerel on toast. I was sitting at the desk, about to eat it, when I went into the kitchen for something, very stupidly leaving it on the work surface. When I came back from the kitchen, Sambuca had stolen part of the toast and it was now on the floor. Loganberry and Blackberry both saw what their mum had, went tearing over and Loganberry kept smacking her mum on the head until Sambuca was forced to share her prize with her daughters. Each Berry took a piece from them mum, went to separate parts of the room and ate it. Blackberry was really funny because she took hers under the work surface and sat there eating it and growling at the same time in case someone wanted to steal her prize from her. Sambuca unfortunately is calling yet again which makes sitting here working rather difficult at times.

Sambuca November 2, 2005 - Day 54
For the first time ever it was Blackberry's turn to get into trouble off her mum. After the Berries and Sambuca had eaten breakfast, I opened up the back door leading out into the cat run. Everything was wet outside due to the rain we'd had overnight and I got a shock when 10 minutes later, both Berries were outside playing games in the cat run. Their mother was not impressed at all and she swore at Loganberry who decided to listen to her mum for once and she came running inside. Blackberry on the other hand had no intentions of stopping her outside games and it was so funny to watch Blackberry tearing around the cat run with Sambuca right on her heels, telling her off in no uncertain terms. They got to the small tree stump and Blackberry was trying to stuff her little fat body under there but wasn't quick enough as Sambuca picked up by the scruff of the neck, or tried to as Blackberry is too heavy for that now, and Sambuca managed to drag her partially over the log whilst swearing at her at the same time which is no mean feat. She then chased her back inside and stood at the door, refusing to let anyone pass.

Sambuca November 1, 2005 - Day 53
There's not really a great deal to say about our Berries today as they have spent most of the day curled up sleeping, either on the pink blanket, or on top of me! It's been really difficult to get the entries done today as both of them, as well as Sambuca are currently on my lap and Loganberry keeps popping her head up onto the desk to help me type. I think this is the first morning that I have come downstairs to find that everything on my desk was still in tact and there was nothing on the floor. Mind you, at 9am, Loganberry decided to climb into my stationary tray and knock all the paperclips out onto the desk and the floor.

Sambuca October 31, 2005 - Day 52
Last night, after the 11pm meal which is the last "wet" meal for the night, I said goodnight to the babies, made sure no paperwork at all was on the desk, turned their light off and went upstairs. I came downstairs this morning to find that the Berries had raided my set of trays on the desk yet again and there was official paperwork, stamps, paper clips, vaccination certificates and more, all over the desk and the floor! I got my revenge back though by making the Berries wait until I'd gathered everything back up before feeding them their breakfast :) Their appetites are so huge at the moment and it's no surprise due to the amount of energy they are expending during a 24 hour period. Loganberry is much larger than her sister now and is currently weighing in at 880 grams which is probably the biggest female I've had at this age. Blackberry is smaller than her sister but still a large size for her age so both babies are doing really, really well. I think they will be pleased though when in 12 days time or so, there will be no other babies in the house and they can have the run of the house and their door can be left open permanently.
Sambuca October 30, 2005 - Day 51
What can I say about my Berries, other than the fact that they are bundles of energy, heaven bent on destroying my tranquil working space, otherwise known as my office in the back room. It's so very difficult to get any work done at the moment and I generally have to wait until they are asleep because they bounce around all over the keyboards, the work tops, they pull everything out of my stationary drawers and nothing is sacred at all. Up until very recently, it was only Loganberry who was so very mischievous but I'm afraid to say that she has now taught Blackberry all of her tricks and they are just double trouble.
Sambuca October 29, 2005 - Day 50
The mystery as to how the Berries reach the office chair has now been solved. They use 2 methods to get up onto the chair and the first is that they push their little pyramid over to the chair, climb the pyramid and jump up on to the chair OR they just jump straight from the floor to the chair! I truly did not think they would be capable of such a high jump so it goes to show you what I know doesn't it. Blackberry had some wonderful cuddles with Jason and Mandi today when they came to visit and I was impressed that she behaved herself quite beautifully, as did Loganberry which surprised me. Mind you, the Berries had been sleeping when they arrived so they were very happy to just chill out and have their photo taken amidst cuddles. Blackberry now has a new lovely pink blanket all of her own that Jason and Mandi brought with them but as Blackberry is such a generous girl, she's very happy to share her blanket with her sister and her mum. It was really lovely to see Jason and Mandi again and to show off our cats to them and I know that Blackberry is going to have a wonderful home with her new mum and dad.

Sambuca October 28, 2005 - Day 49 - 7 weeks old today!
I am finding it difficult to believe that we have now reached the 7 weeks of age stage of our Berries lives and both babies are doing incredibly well. However.............I was not impressed with the mess that greeted me this morning when I first came down to the back room. All I can figure out is that they were annoyed at being told they were too young to go to the party the other night and obviously chose to have one of their own! Apart from being greeted by the mess, the first thing I noticed was that neither Berry, nor mother could be seen. They ALWAYS sleep on their beds on the tubs but they weren't there this morning but I soon found them curled up with their mum sleeping on my office chair and I do not know at all how they managed to get on there. Sambuca wouldn't have picked them up because the Berries, particularly Loganberry are way too large and heavy for Sami to carry around yet I can't see that they could have just jumped from the floor to the chair because they aren't big enough yet so I am at a total loss and would love to know the answer to this little mystery. Now getting back to the mess, they had obviously spent half the night exploring my work surface because the paperwork that was on the surface the night before was all over the floor this morning, along with a half empty food bowl, because there was JW kitten biscuits from one end of the room to the other, to say nothing of toys, an upturned wastepaper bin with everything all over the floor. On any other day, I wouldn't have cared but as I knew that Whispa was definitely leaving today, I had a huge rush to get everything ready for her departure. I'm hoping that come tomorrow, things will settle down a bit in our house as the next baby doesn't leave until next week so with a bit of luck, the diary entries can go back to normal, complete with photos!
