Sambuca's 2nd Kitten Diary - September 2005 - December 2005
Sambuca November 30, 2005 - Day 82
It was lovely to see Jason and Mandi yesterday afternoon and I know that our older cats certainly enjoyed the visit. It's unfortunate that the same could not be said for Blackberry who was in no mood whatsoever to be cuddled or even seen for that matter. The little minx was more interested in bounding around on the lounge or going behind the fish tank. I can't believe that in just 9-10 days time she will be leaving here. As usual though I am sure that the time will pass too slowly for Jason and Mandi but too quickly for me. The fact that I'm keeping Loganberry though does it make it much easier. The Berries surprised me this morning by not vanishing upstairs into the linen cupboard again, instead, they chose to play on the lounge and chase each other.

Sambuca November 29, 2005 - Day 81
This is an exciting day for Blackberry today as her new family, Jason and Mandi will be coming to visit her this afternoon which is lovely. She has been looking forward to this visit all day. I went upstairs this morning to sweep mop the upstairs part of the house and the kitten room (again!) and thought it odd that the Berries weren't down there as I hadn't recalled seeing them downstairs either. As I walked back through the hallway with the broom, I noticed some pillowcases on the floor that had obviously fallen out of the linen cupboard. I opened the cupboard to put them back in their rightful place and lo and behold, on one shelf was Blackberry, on the shelf underneath her was Loganberry, creating havoc with towels, sheets, tablecloths etc. They have obviously decided that the linen cupboard is now their new home <sigh> and I guess it is rather warm in there but I really could do without the Berries playing games in there and making all my neat piles of linen into a huge jumbled mess.

Sambuca November 28, 2005 - Day 80
Many apologies for not getting the diary (what there is of it) online until the following day. It was one of those days today where I just had too much to do and nowhere near enough time. I didn't even manage to take any photos. The babies spent most of today in the lounge area, playing chase and snoozing on the lounge. I don't actually remember them being upstairs at all.

Sambuca November 27, 2005 - Day 79
Babies are stairs are a deadly combination! For the first part of this morning, Blackberry and Loganberry have been chasing each other (and their mum) up and down the stairs over and over again. I actually get tired just watching them. We have to be so very careful because I can foresee one of the humans in the home having a bad accident whilst trying to avoid babies. Their mum is still screaming her head off in full call. I'm beginning to think it will never end. She's been calling now for more than week so the babies have been pretty much orphans as Sami is more interested in looking for a man than looking after her babies. Just as well that both Berries are extremely self sufficient now. Their latest new fun game that they play of an evening occurs when they are shut in their back room at approximately 6pm each night. Then the game called "Lets Escape When The Doors Open And Make The Humans Chase Us" begins and it's a nightmare. Both Berries know that they are put in the back room at the same time that the other cats are put upstairs so that we can eat dinner in peace. The problem is that you have to pass through the back room to get to and from the kitchen and the dining table. Naturally as soon as we open the door, carrying plates etc. in our hands, the Berries are primed and waiting and run out the open door like a bullet. There is absolutely no way that we can stop them so the plates are on the table, everyone is ready to eat and Mo and I are in the loungeroom trying to retrieve the babies who think it's a marvellous game. I'm afraid that photos are not particularly interesting today as the babies were more concerned with sleeping than anything else. I can't say that I blame them considering how cold it is. Definitely a great day to curl up all snug and warm and snooze the afternoon away.

Sambuca November 26, 2005 - Day 78
I had to smile at Blackberry yesterday afternoon because she was relaxing on the bed on the food tub when I heard a hiss, glanced over my shoulder, just in time to see someone about to smack her. I said "Cao, no Buie, no, whoever you are, stop that" You would think I would know my own cats by now! So Blackberry scrambled off the bed, came running over to me, jumped up on my lap for protection. Then Tia Lusso jumped straight up onto the desk, peered down at Blackberry and started grooming her all over from head to tail. Blackberry responded by raising her left paw and smacking poor Lusso in the mouth! These babies really need to learn some manners I think. She then curled up on my lap and went to sleep which was really lovely but every time I wanted to get up off my chair I had to carry her with me wherever I was going. Blackberry is also much happier today because as you can see, the pink blanket is out of the wash and she has it back again :)

Sambuca November 25, 2005 - Day 77 - 11 weeks old today!
I was about to start writing that today the Berries have been rather lazy and seem intent on spending most of the day snoozing near the radiator however, Graham has just come downstairs from the bathroom to inform me that "Cadbury and Blackberry have discovered the washing hamper and are playing games with it and climbing up it". My first thought obviously, was who the flippin' heck is Cadbury?????? I realised a few seconds later that he means Loganberry whom he seems to give a different name to on a daily basis. When I went upstairs to see for myself, whilst both Berries were no longer in the bathroom, they were indeed upstairs and creating havoc in the linen cupboard. I guess they are now having their "awake" moment which should last for a few hours. When I was taking photos this morning, Loganberry did not want her to have her photo taken because she was way to comfortable to want to move. Blackberry was more than happy to comply. One of the things that I love about Blackberry is that every time she sees me, she greets me as if she hasn't seen me in months and is really excited. I love this about her and I am sure that she will be doing the same to Jason and Mandi once she is in their home. It's so hard to believe that our Berries are 11 weeks old now. It seems as if it was only a couple of week's ago that they were born, yet here they are, massive babies, who'll be going for their 2nd vaccination in about 10 week's time.
