Kitten Diaries
Sambuca
September 2005
Sambuca's 2nd Kitten Diary - September 2005 - December 2005
Sambuca November 24, 2005 - Day 76
I've had some lovely cuddles with Blackberry this morning. For some reason she has chosen to spend some of her morning sitting on my lap rather than run about and be with the other cats. Mind you, I'm not totally surprised because with Sambuca and Drambuie both screaming in full call and being extremely hormonal, it's a bit of a war zone here at the moment! The GCCF have now received the registration form for the Berries so I'm hoping that we will have their registration papers back in time for Blackberry's departure. I told Blackberry this morning that her new family, Jason and Mandi, will be coming to visit her soon (well they will when I actually reply to their email!) so she's really looking forward to that. She was a bit annoyed with me last night because I washed her pink blanket which is her present from Jason and Mandi and she does love her blanket. It's very difficult trying to explain to a kitten that you haven't taken their blanket away permanently, you just want to make it clean again.

Sambuca November 23, 2005 - Day 75
All I have seen today is fleeting glimpses of the Berries as small Black and White beings are running past me at full speed! I don't know where they go or what they do. They are a bit like teenage children..........you call their name, they ignore you, they make a mess, they don't clean it up, they party constantly until they drop and they then just flop out on the lounge or anywhere else until their energy levels are back to normal, they eat you out of house and home, but will not go out to work to support their eating habits. Still, I do love seeing them like this where they are finding their own niche in the family and just trying to fit in. Granny Cacao still insists on smacking her grandchildren for no apparent reason at all, yet at other times, she curls up with them and grooms them and they all sleep together. Last night was very funny because they were in their "bedroom" for the evening, I was trying to say goodnight to them and they were mauling my slippers. Each Berry had a slipper and was attacking it which made it impossible for me to move or leave the room. Naturally, I then had to crouch down and have chats and cuddles with the babies which is probably what they were expecting anyway.

Sambuca November 22, 2005 - Day 74
I'm at a bit of a loss today as this morning I created the last entry for the Dancer's kitten diary as Tango left me yesterday afternoon to live with his new family. This leaves me with just one kitten diary to do now for our Berries and even that won't last for too much longer :( I could say that by December 12, I will have a lot of time on my hands and no diaries to do as we will have no babies in the house however plans are already underway for next year's breeding program so at the very most I think we will manage about one and half months of having a "normal" home. Our Berries are having such a wonderful time with their full house access and half the day, they are not even in the same part of the home. Sambuca has come back into call again <sigh>. Her sister, Drambuie started calling 2 days ago and that was more than enough to encourage Sami to start up again so while she is still keeping an eye on her babies, she is not trailing along behind them wherever they go. At this point in their lives both girls are fully aware where all the food and water bowls in the home are so they are fitting into the family extremely well. Loganberry is no longer bothered about the rest of our feline family and I was watching her up on the dining table today trying to catch some of our adults' tails and pounce on them.

Sambuca November 21, 2005 - Day 73
Having watched both Berries quite closely for the last couple of days, I am now convinced that we're keeping the wrong sister! Blackberry has her mischievous moments like all Oriental and Siamese kittens (and cats do), however, Blackberry understands that when human mum says or does something, she means it and is normally happy to comply. Loganberry on the other hand has turned into a spoilt brat!!! As everyone who has been reading this diary is aware, during the day the Berries have the run of the house but of an evening, they are confined to their "bedroom". They have really loved having their freedom and when it comes time to say goodnight to them Loganberry has started having the most vile temper tantrums at being shut in for the night. I couldn't believe it last night when I closed the door and she then started smacking the glass door and screaming at the top of her voice, absolutely furious at not being allowed back out. Blackberry on the other hand was happy to amuse herself with the toys in the back room and run about all over the desk. I don't know what I'm going to do with Loganberry when she gets older. I guess I will just shake my head and sigh like I've done throughout Drambuie's life.

Sambuca November 20, 2005 - Day 72
I took so many photos today of Blackberry but the majority of them didn't turn out which is just typical really. I have no doubts though that when she is in her new home, Jason and Mandi will be taking many photos of her :) It's really lovely to see the girls running about throughout the house now although poor Blackberry got yet another smack in the mouth from his granny today. Blackberry was sitting on the sofa minding her own business when Cacao jumped up onto the scratch post, smacked her grand daughter, Blackberry then rolled over and adopted the submissive pose (she has wonderful cat etiquette) but unfortunately, rolled a bit too far and rolled right off the lounge. I picked her up, had stern words with Cacao, and then Blackberry was happy to sit on the sofa again.

Sambuca November 19, 2005 - Day 71
Even though this has very little to do with the Berries, I simply have to say a Huge Congratulations to Elaine, owner of Pr Schimmel Superhoops (Xena). Xena is the Berries' Aunty as she is Sambuca's sister and today at the Supreme, which is, at the largest cat show in the UK, Xena not only won her class, she also beat 2 other cats, and gained her first Grand Challenge Certificate! As novice breeders, we here at Schimmel are extremely proud of this achievement. Now, onto the Berries' themselves......................... as you can see by the photos below (what few there are), now that the Berries have full house access, they are more than happy to be in totally different parts of the home. Blackberry prefers the lounge area whilst Loganberry prefer to be upstairs. The surprising thing is that Blackberry is the baby who is not phased by the other cats yet Sambuca will stay in the lounge area keeping an eye on her all the time. Yet Loganberry is upstairs with the other cats whom she is not totally enamoured with, and her mother is happy to leave her to it. Go figure!

Sambuca November 18, 2005 - Day 70 - 10 weeks old today!
There is actually no photos today and very little news of our Berries even though they have reached the 10 week old landmark today. The reason for this is that it is our daughter's birthday today so the day has been spent doing family things. We saw the new Harry Potter film which was absolutely brilliantly and then went out for a birthday dinner etc. This meant that the Berries were confined to their back room again because I don't want them running free around the home in none of the humans are here. First thing in the morning, the door was opened up and they had some time running around but it was only for a couple of hours.
