Sambuca
April 2005
Day 69 - June 12, 2005
Our Planets have been having a fun day so far, tearing around the house, out in the cat run and playing chase with each other on the lounge and on the windowsill. I am pleased that this as of yet, they have decided not to climb the chairs and play all over the dining room table as they did yesterday! As we are doing the Planet's diary I am just going to mention in here a huge Congratulations to Caryll who owns Schimmel Chilli Tequila (Kyla) as Kyla was shown yesterday at the London Cat Club show and she gained her 2nd PC. Kyla is related to the Planets as she is Sambuca's sister. But back to the Planets now, I'm really happy with their progress to date because they are just coming along in leaps and bounds and it's very difficult for me to think about how old they are now because in reality, I only have them for another 3 weeks or so which is not a cheery thought. At the moment, they are eating us out of house and home and it is lovely to see them with such good appetites. They are currently on 4 wet meals a day and the rest of the day they are eating the James Wellbeloved kitten biscuits which they really lovely. Some of our Planets were most annoyed with the Musketeers today because the Three Musketeers were all having "one of those days" and the Planets kept getting caught up in the middle of their battles which they really didn't appreciate as they were trying to sleep at the time!

Day 68 - June 11, 2005
The Planets were given access to the whole of the house again today and I was relieved because this meant that they created havoc everywhere but in the back room. Since their vaccinations, they have all turned into little mad kittens who are constantly on the go. Prior to the time of writing this entry, and from the moment I got out of bed, they just have not stopped. On three occasions I have almost fallen over just to avoid standing on a kitten who has zoomed towards me from out of nowhere at speeds that even I am amazed at. It is lovely though to see them so energetic and having so much fun. As I write this now though, every single baby has fallen asleep in a pile on a chair, all apart from Venus who is curled up on my lap. I did feel sorry for a couple of our Planets today, namely Saturn and Jupiter, both of whom had the misfortune to get in their mother's way. Sambuca is still in full call (I'm wondering when it will actually end) and being a typical calling queen, she is very hormonal and the slightest things annoy her (a bit like a woman with PMT I hear some of you guys saying!). Anyway, Saturn and Jupiter were bouncing around all over the place and were trying to encourage Sambuca to play with them and they both got growled at and bitten on the ear for their troubles. After that, they did give their mum quite a wide berth.

Day 67 - June 10, 2005
As you can see by some of the photos below, our Planets have been having lots of fun and games in the cat run this morning. They have not been affected one bit by their vaccinations yesterday. Jupiter got stuck today and had to be rescued as she climbed up the wire in the cat run, right up to the top and when she realised how high she had climbed she started to worry a bit so I ran out into the cat run and took her off the wire and put her back on the ground. Sure enough she then went and climbed the tree in the cat run instead! Like the Musketeers, they are missing not having full house access but they will be given this again in a couple of days time once the vaccines have "worn off" a bit. Venus and Neptune are forever sticking their paws under the door constantly in the hopes that it will magically open and they can get into the lounge room.

Day 66 - June 9, 2005
The Planets had their first set of vaccinations today but they were all extremely well behaved and didn't make too much of a fuss while it was being done. Since they had their jabs, they have been running around like mad little people, full of energy which surprised me as normally they become a little quieter after vaccinations. We will be keeping a very close eye on them though over the next 48 hours just to make sure everyone is okay and there's been no side effects. Poor Jupiter got in trouble of her mum today. Sambuca is calling (again!) and she's feeling very hormonal and Jupiter made the mistake of trying to play with mum by pouncing on her tail. She got a smack on the head for her troubles and was chased of the chair.

Day 65 - June 8, 2005
Now that things are getting back to normal, the whole house has been opened up for the Planets to explore wherever they wanted. At times during the day, I've seen babies upstairs, downstairs and out in the cat run. Sambuca's not overly happy about this because she is constantly going up and down the stairs trying to keep an eye on her 5 little ones. There's really not a great deal in the way of photos today as the Planets have been all of the house and I really don't have the energy today to be chasing them everywhere trying to get a photo. Mars' favourite place to sleep is still on the shelf under the TV unit.
Day 64 - June 7, 2005
Today's entry in both diaries is exactly the same. I was with the babies for a few hours this morning but I then had an appointment in the dental clinic where I was sedated so naturally, I wasn't able to function at all yesterday afternoon. The babies were all in the wonderful care of husband and daughter.

Day 63 - June 6, 2005

At long last everything here is starting to get back to normal. Anyone reading this entry will be doing so via our new Schimmel web site. I am stunned that our Planets are now 9 weeks old and later on this week, they will be having their first set of vaccinations which hopefully they will cope with very well. The Planets have grown so much, but particularly Saturn who is going to be quite a large boy. He is miles ahead of his sisters with regards to size and weight. It's very difficult to tell our 4 girls apart still and I do have to pick them up and study their faces prior to knowing who is who. If I look at them from the back, I have absolutely no idea. Fortunately though, I can see a difference in each of their faces so at least I won't mix any of them up when it's time for them to leave me in July. All of our little Blacks have such lovely little personalities and they are very happy babies, and at times, incredibly naughty. I do hope that their new owners are fully aware just how active their new babies will be.

I won't be able to put any photos in the diary entries until I do Wednesday's entry because I do some time to catch up on a few more bits and pieces first.
