Drambuie's 1st Kitten Diary - August 2005 to November 2005
Day 69 - October 20, 2005
Just like the Chocolate Bars entry, this one is extremely short as I was at the vets this morning for vaccinations (not me personally), and am running so behind now. All of our Dancers have been in feisty moods again this morning, all except for Bolero who was much more interested in trying to look beautiful for the camera which he definitely succeeded in. I do apologise for the very short entry but hopefully the photos will make up for it. Actually, now that I think about it, the photos took so darn long as there are so many of them and that also is why the writing is minimal.

Day 68 - October 19, 2005

The Chocolate Bars and the Dancers entry both start off the same because as you are aware, they were all evicted from the back room (where they used to sleep at night and where they used to be fed) as I needed to move the Berries downstairs into the back room. When I first moved the Berries in, the other babies could not understand why they suddenly couldn't get into the back room. Fortunately, they were used to spending a lot of time upstairs, playing and sleeping and they already had litter trays and food/water bowls in the upstairs hallway. I put their large vet bed up there as well. Feeding time was a bit difficult because they all knew that they should be getting fed in the back room so I had to prepare their meals, and then take it upstairs, calling the babies behind me as I went and fortunately they all followed me. They were then fed in the kitten room (where the Berries used to live) and after they had eaten, they were put back out into general population. The meal times are a bit of a chore doing it this way but the babies now know which room is their meal room. Last night, as per usual, the babies had the run of the house until it was time to sleep. It was actually easier to gather them up and get them in their bedroom because they were already upstairs running about in and out of our bedroom and in the hallway so it was simply a case of scooping them up one by one, putting them in the kitten room, giving them their last meal and letting them settle for the night. I had to give Mo new feeding instructions as she is always the first person out of bed and she feeds them their early breakfast. It certainly does make it easier getting in and out of the kitchen though with no babies screaming at us for meals. On the whole, the babies have all adapted really well although our hallways is now littered with cats and kittens because wherever the babies are, the other cats want to be as well. The only slight change to all of this is that the mum's no longer go into the room with the babies of an evening. They don't see their mum's during the night however they are with them from about 7am until 11pm.

As you can no doubt tell by the photos below, our Red Dancers have been in a rather feisty mood during the last 24 hours and there have been battles galore in our house. Mind you, it's not just the Red babies, I had to get out of bed on 3 occasions last night due to hearing little squeals of pain and I went out thinking that Calypso had been biting poor Tango or Lambada (who are smaller than everyone else remember), only to find on each occasion that Lambada had poor Crunchie pinned to the floor and was chewing his ears relentlessly. Size definitely does not make any difference when it comes to wrestling! Out of our 5 Dancers I think Tango is the most laid back, chilled out of the guys. He's a real sweetheart and I'm so pleased that he will be sharing his home with Buttons because neither of them are overly rough and they will have lots of great games and cuddles together in their new home.

Day 67 - October 18, 2005
I'm really pleased to say that 24 hours have now passed and we've had no vaccine side effects at all which is a relief. Our Dancers were all rather quiet yesterday afternoon and had quite a long sleep but when I fed them lunch yesterday and then meals again late afternoon and evening, they all had great appetites so it is looking good at the moment. Going of this morning's antics with the Dancers, it is as if they were not even vaccinated yesterday because they have been tearing around like lunatics all morning. At the moment, they have all flopped out and fallen asleep thank goodness so I can at least get the diary entry online. It was all going well too until I realised that I had put the Dancers photos in the Chocolate Bars entry and had to go and remove them all. It's not a terribly long entry because I really do need to do something about moving the Berries downstairs today and that is going to be very time consuming.

Day 66 - October 17, 2005
The dreaded day is here and our 5 Dancers had their first set of vaccinations today, along with their mum who was also due for her jabs as well. I am so proud of them as they behaved so very well. They were not noisy in the car, in the surgery they were sitting up in their carriers looking around very alert to see what was going on and what this strange place was. Even when Andy examined them they were as good as gold and totally unphased by what was happening to them. The only baby who protested when the needle went in was Bolero. No surprise there :) I must say that I do feel a huge relief now that they have been done and they are protected now. Upon their return from the vets, they all climbed out of their carrier and ran upstairs to play in the hallway for an hour before dropping off to sleep. We'll be keeping a very close eye on them during the next 24 hours to make sure that there are no side effects to the vaccines but so far, everything is looking fairly normal.

Day 65 - October 16, 2005

Before I start any of the entries I would like to say a big Congratulations to Caryll, owner of Premier Schimmel Chilli Tequila (Kyla) as Kyla won her 3rd PC at the Kentish show yesterday and is now a titled cat. Also many congratulations to Marcelle, owner of Schimmel Dadada Dahoops who won his first CC at the Kentish show.

Bolero had a wonderful day yesterday as his new mum, Jacqui, was here visiting, along with Marcelle and Jim and Bolero showed his mum just how much energy he really has by playing lots of games for hours on end. I think that Jacqui tired long before Bolero did. All of our Dancers are doing really well and tomorrow is their "big day" as we are booked in for vaccinations tomorrow morning. I think that Drambuie is starting to tire now due to the feeding of the babies. Even though they are all fully weaned, whenever the Dancers see their mum, they insist on trying to feed from her and she is so very patient and will just stand there with babies milling around her and suckling. The problem is that once the Chocolate Bars see what is going on, they join in as well and it's really taking it's toll on Drambuie. Salsa also had a great day today because he had visits from his new owners, Martin, Debbie, William and Rebecca which was lovely. He had some cuddles with his new family and had his photo taken as well. It was so nice to see Salsa getting lots of attention from visitors and it really made his day. I think Salsa will be very happy in his new home as he will have a young Bengal, Monty, to play lots of games with and to snuggle up with.

Day 64 - October 15, 2005

There are no photos in any of today's diary entry as it's been a devastating morning for us due to the loss of Cute T overnight.

I'm really delighted that Salsa is having some visitors all of his own tomorrow. Up until now, the poor little guy has been the only Dancer who has not had any possible new owners come to see him, however, he is in for a treat tomorrow. I really am pleased because he's such a beautiful boy who loves humans and feline company. I have told him that tomorrow is his "special" day and that he must be on his best behaviour so hopefully he'll listen to me. After breakfast today, the majority of the Dancers were all upstairs in the hallway and the bathroom. They really love it up there and part of the reason for this is the hot water pipes that go underneath the laminated floor as they spend hours lying on those parts of the floor, feeding and wrestling with each other.

Day 63 - October 14, 2005 - 9 weeks old today!
The time is passing way too quickly, as per normal and already, arrangements are being made as to which days/dates the new families will be taking their Dancer babies home with them. I know that Jacqui is doing a daily countdown until Bolero will live with her, as not doubts, our other Dancers owners are all doing. Our 5 babies will be booked in for their first set of vaccinations on Monday (if I get around to making an appointment!) which will be quite scary. Hopefully though, it will all go well with no problems at all. As you can see by one of the photos below, our upstairs hallway appears to have been turned into a kitten day nursery. I don't know who is responsible but every morning when I do litter trays and the floors, I put the babies' toys back downstairs where they belong yet an hour or so later, when any of us go upstairs to try and get into the bathroom, it is an absolute minefield. We have to step over babies, toys, food bowls etc.
