Kitten Diaries
Drambuie
August 2005
Drambuie's 1st Kitten Diary - August 2005 to November 2005
Day 20 - september 1, 2005
Well Bolero had some lovely cuddles with his new owner, Jacqui yesterday while either Salsa or Calypso (not entirely sure who, had some great cuddles with Caryll. It was a toss up though I think as to which of them was actually the loudest! (the babies that is, not Jacqui or Caryll). I have definitely gone overboard with photos today. I just couldn't help myself because I was having so much fun just watching them move about and climb on each other and start to explore the room that I just kept clicking away. I won't actually admit though how many photos I took altogether as I didn't put them all in this entry. Hopefully you can tell by the photos below, the Dancers are all doing extremely well and it's actually very easy to believe that tomorrow, they will be 3 weeks old!

Day 19 - August 31, 2005
There's no photos in any diary entries today because to be honest, I just don't have the time. It's really hectic here today so you will all just have to "imagine" what your babies look like. My babies can walk!!!!!! And they love me now!!!! I was in the kitten room last night, and I lay down on the floor in front of the box and called the babies and they all came running straight up to the opening in the box and then they all came out of the box, some flopped out, some were smart enough to know that they had to pick up their paws and put one in front of the other, some tried to pick up both paws at once and fell on their faces but eventually, every single baby was out of the box and they all came over to me and started sniffing my face and climbing on top of me. It was truly a wonderful moment. Drambuie was really annoyed with me for "teaching" them how to escape from their box and I went back in the room about 1/2 hour later to discover that 3 babies were still out of the box and wandering around the room while Buie was chasing after them. I call that REVENGE for Buie's "poo" incident 2 nights ago :) This is a really special day for Bolero today because he is having a visit from his new mum, who is simply the best person in the world. Jacqui hasn't seen him yet so it will be a first time meeting for them both. I just hope she likes him! Hopefully, Caryll and Ray will also be visiting with Jacqui which is great as I haven't seen them in what feels like ages. Mind you, I sure Ray won't hesitate to gloat over the score from the last test match but he may as well gloat while he can because it will be a different story in a few week's time when the Aussies take the Ashes back :)

Day 18 - August 30, 2005
Well the first of our babies started climbing out of the box today and it was our Oriental Black babies. We had a friend here this morning and I was showing the babies to him and next thing you know, two of our Blacks (I think Samba & Lambada) had climbed out of the box, onto the blanket in front of the box to see what all the fuss was about. Poor Buie didn't know what to make of her babies who were escaping from their confines. It will be interesting to see whether or not she will be prepared to let them have their freedom as they mature. I might be wrong but I seem to remember with Cacao's first litter that she was most put out by her babies wanting to move around and explore and she kept putting them back in the box. With a bit of luck, Drambuie will have more sense and will realise that once the babies want to explore, there is no stopping them at all. I seem to keep taking more photos of the Dancers than I do of our current other 2 litters but I think that is because the Dancers, particularly the Reds, seem to photograph so well and because they are not running about all over the place, yet, it's much easier to get semi decent photos of them.

Day 17 - August 29, 2005
Drambuie is in my bad books again as when I went into the room to give her the last wet meal of the night at about 10pm, I discovered that she had decided to go to the toilet on some clean kitten bedding that I had put in there earlier in the day. Had she just have done a wee, it might not have been quite so bad but no, she had to do far worse than that. So at 10:30pm I was downstairs with loads of bedding putting it through the wash. I was not a happy bunny to say the least. I'm sure the Dancers weren't either because the smell was horrendous! Our Dancers are getting quite talkative now and every time I go into the kitten room and talk to them, they all talk back which is really lovely, and they are all getting quite large now, particularly our Red babies.

Day 16 - August 28, 2005
Well it would now appear that Calypso has a lovely home to go to. I met Anita yesterday who is a lovely lady and Calypso will be sharing his new home with her which is fantastic. Do you remember me saying in an earlier entry that I was a bit concerned that Drambuie wasn't eating as much dry kitten food as I would have liked? Well yesterday, just before Anita's arrival, I had been in the kitten room, and there had been a 5kg bag of James Wellbeloved kitten biscuits just sitting on the chair in the room where it had been for a week or so. I went to pick the bag up to put it away, and as I did, biscuits started pouring out of it through a huge hole that Drambuie had made! She has obviously decided to open the bag and just help herself. Anyone who says that cats are not intelligent has obviously never had the pleasure of sharing a home with Orientals or Siamese. As usual, our Dancers are doing quite well and I'm still over the moon with their progress. They all talk to me now and no one has hissed at me in days and they love it when I talk to them and stroke their ears. All of them are such gorgeous babies. I guess in about a week's time, I will have to look at moving them downstairs to share the back room with the Chocolate Bars and the T's which should make life incredibly interesting to say the least. I'm just waiting for the downstairs babies to become a bit more in dependant first as I will be happier if they have whole house access prior to bringing the Dancers down.

Day 15 - August 27, 2005
I'm sure that "some" people will be pleased to see photos in today's entry :) not mentioning any names of course! Our Dancers are now showing a huge interest in climbing out of the box. When I changed their bedding this morning, I picked up the bedding with all 6 babies on it, placed it on the floor while I put in new bedding etc. Within 1 minute of being on the floor, the Dancers were climbing off the bedding and starting to move across the floor. Let me assure you that I then did the quickest bed change in history and they were back in the box before they knew it. I just know that very soon, I'm going to go upstairs, open the door and find them all over the darn room. Like the other diary entries for today, this one is also going online early due to me having a rather hectic day planned.

Day 14 - August 26, 2005 (2 weeks old today!)
Yet another week of the Dancers' lives has simply flown by and in a week's time, they will be moving house and coming downstairs to live. I am surprised that none of them are really that interested in climbing out of the box yet, apart from that once incident recently with Salsa. They are all just so content to be snug and warm and with their mum and that is really lovely. Although the thought of them being downstairs and running about is slightly horrifying because I have it in on very good authority, by Kim, that the reds are going to be absolute little terrors. This is almost certainly true as I find that Torties are so incredibly naughty, due to that red gene so I guess that Bolero, Salsa and Calypso will no doubt follow in their mum's paws. I can but hope that Tango, Samba and Lambada will be more laid back, but if my own Oriental Blacks are anything to go on, then chances are, they will be just as mischievous. Would you believe I actually have no photos for today's entry as it's been really hectic here today and I've had quite a lot to do but I will make sure I have some in tomorrow's entry.
