Kitten Diaries
Drambuie
August 2005
Drambuie's 1st Kitten Diary - August 2005 to November 2005
Day 13 - August 25, 2005
Today I managed individual photos of the babies. Obviously you all know their names but no one really knows which one is which so this will give you an idea now. Our babies are currently gaining between 10 and 18 grams on a daily basis which I am thrilled to bits about. Considering that there are 6 Dancers, those are excellent gains. I have a feeling though that Calypso and Salsa and going to be large boys! It's not a long entry (nothing new in that) because the individual photos are really time consuming and do take quite a while to sort out.

Day 12 - August 24, 2005
I wasn't even going to do a real entry in here today due to the fact that I lost my Iced T this morning which has devastated me. Right now, the Dancers are such a comfort because every time I am in the kitten room, and every time I see them together, sleeping or feeding, it just brings such a smile to my face and they are the one light at the end of the tunnel right now, and the one litter that is helping me to try and remain positive throughout all of this. They are little darlings, even Samba who had the audacity to hiss at me again this morning! At this stage, I think that Bolero and Samba have the strongest personalities as they are the only 2 who really have proper reactions to anything I do. For example, Bolero always reacts to the sound of the camera, and if I'm doing anything in the room, he will sit up and watch everything I do. Samba is very similar in the respect at this stage, he is not sure whether or not I am his friend or not. Some days, he is more than happy for me to interact with him, other days, he is having none of it at all. The other 4, at the moment are just very happy-go-lucky babies who don't really mind what is going on so long as they have everything they need. I've added 2 extra photos in here that aren't of the Dancers, not for any reason other than the fact that I thought how lovely it is to see them all sleeping together, just chilled out and laid back. It's not all of our cats, but is some of them.

Day 11 - August 23, 2005
I was getting really carried away doing something this afternoon that has taken up all my time since I put the Chocolate Bars and the T's entry online and I totally forgot to do a Dancer entry! Hence my rushed version now but I know that Jacqui will not forgive me if I don't get at least something online. I'm happy to say that the Dancers are in a much better mood today and have not hissed at me even once for which I'm rather relieved about. Especially as they are quite scary looking when they do this. I had to smile at Salsa earlier this morning because when I fed Drambuie her mid morning meal (don't even ask me what time it was because I wouldn't have a clue, all I seem to do is go up and down the stairs with plates of food) she had obviously got out of the box to eat her food and left the babies mid way through feeding from her. Next thing I knew, a little red face pops up at the opening of the box and a paw starts coming out! I was rather stunned to say the least. The reason this made me smile is because I knew there is no way that he could have climbed out, and it obviously dawned on him as well because he had a look of confusion in his eyes and didn't know what to do next.

Day 10 - August 22, 2005
The babies were most unhappy with me today for changing their bedding, so much so that the little horrors hissed at me! That's gratitude for you. I make sure they are comfortable, I don't let them get too hot or too cold, I give them fresh bedding and they think I am the enemy. Drambuie was funny because when I put the Dancers back in their box with the new bedding, they started screaming at me, so Buie came running over, stuck her head in the box and started counting them. Goodness only knows what she thought I was doing to them. While she was counting them though, she was making the funniest of noises because their screaming had dragged her away from a plate of rabbit mince that she was rather partial to and it you could hear in her voice how difficult a decision it was. "Do I count my little ones or eat the rabbit?" The rabbit won out in the end and once she came back and checked another three times and was convinced that they were still all there, she went back to her food. At that point I figured it was time to leave her in peace and put yet another load of kitten bedding in the wash.

Day 9 - August 21, 2005
As stated in our other current kitten diary entries, apologies for not getting this entry online today and also for no photos. We had to go out very unexpectedly and I wasn't able to get the diary done. Drambuie ate a lot more dry food today than she normally does because I was not here for some of the day so she wasn't being taken up food on a plate every couple of hours. Judging by the Dancers' weight gains, this has had no effect on them whatsoever. One odd thing I've noticed with this litter is that our Red boys are all that bit larger than the Black boys. It's even quite apparent when you look at them in the photos and I have no idea why at all.

Day 8 - August 20, 2005
All our Dancers' eyes are now fully open and they are all progressing beautifully. After writing that sentence, I've actually come to a blank as to what else to write. If I sat in the kitten room for a period of 10 hours, all that would happen would be babies would eat, get groomed by Drambuie, and sleep. Absolutely nothing else at all which is why it is rather hard to think of what to put in an entry. I'm hoping that if I continue to put photos in each entry that you will all be so amazed at how beautiful the babies are that you won't realise there is very little text :)

Day 7 - August 19, 2005
It's hard to believe that the Dancers are already one week old. I have no idea where the time has gone, but it is as if they were only just born a couple of days ago. I'm really pleased to see that Drambuie is now eating much more dry kitten biscuits because ever since the babies were a day old, because I had been feeding her so much other stuff to keep her strength up, she tended not to eat any dry biscuits because she knew I'd be giving her the yummy food (which I don't feel is that good for them). I noticed this morning though that the dry food bowl contents had diminished quite a lot which was good to see. Our Dancers are still doing really, really well and are such a delight to have in the house. As each day passes, you can see them becoming more and more aware of their surroundings although all they want at the moment is milk, and the warmth and security of Drambuie which is exactly how it should be.
