Kitten Diaries
Cointreau
August 2006
Cointreau's 1st Kitten Diary - August 2006 to November 2006
Day 20 - September 16, 2006
There is no entry at all today but we do have a very good reason for this which we will expand on in a day or two so please bear with us.

Day 19 - September 15, 2006
I don't actually think our Burps have spent any time in the box at all since last night because last night they slept with Cointreau on the bedding outside of the box and this morning they were still there. In fact, when we got out of bed, Fanta decided it was time he had a little wander around the room, off the bedding altogether, which did not impress his mum as you can imagine. Graham and I have been talking and we think we what we will have to do is try to separate our main kitten room into two sections so that The Burps can move in there where they will have more room and more freedom, and the other half of the room can still be used by our current babies who are now at that stage where they sleep in their kitten room, but spend all day running throughout the house. As you can hopefully tell by the photos below, our babies are still thriving and they have lovely, fat little tummies. I can't see that I will even bother trying to wean them until they are at least 4 weeks of age. Mainly because Cointreau is doing just fine and has not lost any condition at all so while ever the Burps are doing so well on her milk, I don't see the point in upsetting them all by trying to get them onto solids at 3 weeks of age.

Day 18 - September 14, 2006
Well here we are, another day in the lives of our Burps, and another day of wonderful weight gains, BUT, a day where I have managed to take individual photos as I've been promising to do :) Now I have no idea whether or not you will actually be able to see any changes in the babies between last weeks' individual photos and today's, but let me assure you that they are definitely growing and are definitely changing. They are actually becoming more and more beautiful every single day. Cointreau has done us very proud bless her. I will admit that I had to shut her in the en suite in our bedroom while I took the photos because she was not happy with the babies being placed on the bedding in front of the box to have have their pictures taken and she kept trying to take them off the bedding and put them back in the box. She honestly has no idea what is looming around the corner when her children are running around and totally ignoring her. They really are such a lovely little litter and it is actually nice to have an entire litter of Siamese babies because it's something we don't actually have that often as most of our children are Oriental kittens, or Ori's and Siamese in the one litter.

Day 17 - September 13, 2006
I'm not doing particularly well with photos this week as it's just so very busy here at the moment, particularly as all of our older babies are now tearing around the house like hooligans. You will be pleased to hear though that last night, we took some video footage of the Burps :) But don't get too excited as it will no doubt take us a few days before we can find the time to convert the video so we can put it on the web site. Take the footage is remarkably easy, it's the converting that is a very time consuming process but we will endeavour to get it online as soon as we can. I have extremely good intentions of taking some footage once a week, however, we will see what happens. The Burps are doing extremely well as per usual and I am still very happy with their weight gains. They are starting to becoming very defiant with Cointreau now though because they climb out of the box and refuse to climb back in when she tells them too so what she does is lie in the box, puts her head out and one of her paws and she then grabs the baby nearest to her. She pins the baby down and starts to groom him all over. She then attempts to drag the baby back in the box. For the most part, this does actually work although I fail to see how she is going to keep them under control in a few weeks' time when they are running around all over the place.

Day 16 - September 12, 2006
After dinner last night, I went into our bedroom to feed Cointreau again and to change her litter tray. You can imagine my surprise when the first thing I noticed was all 4 Burps lying on the carpet, just in front of the wardrobe where their box is. At the time, I assumed that Cointreau felt it was too hot in the box in the wardrobe so she must have taken all of her babies out of the box and just plonked them in a little heap on the carpet. I put the Burps back in the box, and laid some thick bedding down on the carpet in front of the box because I figured if she were to take them out again, at least they would have something softer to lie on than carpet. After all the evening cat duties were done, I went up to bed and after watching TV for about 10 minutes, Graham and I were just speechless as we watched all 4 Burps, one by one, climb out of the box, all of their own accord, onto the bedding where they promptly proceeded to go for little strolls. These children are only 16 days old and already are out and exploring! If I hadn't have witnessed it for myself, I don't think I would have believed it. What clever little babies our Burps are though :) I am very proud of them.

Day 15 - September 11, 2006
I'm still really pleased with our babies' weights as they are all over the 300 gram mark which delights me. Cointreau is doing a fantastic job with them as each day passes, our babies are becoming much more aware of their surroundings and they are moving about in the box an awful lot more now. I did mean to take individual photos of the Burps today but our Vax carpet washer put an end to that! One of our adults decided to come downstairs and throw up in spectacular fashion on the 2nd step from the bottom. I ran upstairs, grabbed the carpet cleaner, brought it downstairs only to find the flippin' thing is no longer working. We only bought in at the end of August so we were not impressed. It then took over 1 1/2 to find the receipt for it so we could take it back and exchange it. We took it back, realised we had forgotten something, drove back home, went back, exchanged it and bought a totally different model. Brought it home, put it together and then spent the next hour cleaning the carpet. As you can imagine my entire day is extremely behind now and it's a mad panic to try and get the entries online before I have to dash out to Tesco's and then to the vets to pick up some more Hills a/d. I did at least manage to get some photos of our Burps in their box.

Day 14 - September 10, 2006
Two weeks of age already and our Burps are doing incredibly well and doesn't the time just fly by! They are such funny little babies at this age because they are now learning how to play kitten games and how to chew on each others' limbs. They roll on their backs and wave all 4 paws in the air, while they look around them to see which of their litter mates also wants to play. They are also becoming much more daring now when it comes to the opening in their box and I do get such a laugh as I watch them of an evening, although I have been told by Graham to "stop encouraging them out of the box". What happens is we are lying in bed watching TV, Cointreau comes up on the bed for some cuddles and all the babies clamber to the front of the box and think about climbing out. So I then wave at them from the bed and say "Hello Babies" or "Come on then babies, out you come". I am sure that in a week or two's time, I will probably be regretting this, but we will see :) Unfortunately, I don't have any photos to mark their 2 week stage as it's been rather hectic as per usual today but tomorrow I will endeavour to get some individual photos again of our Burps.
