Day 41 - July 29, 2004
Well the Potters have finally got the hang of the paper ball game now and they're really funny to watch. Apart from Hermione though, none of the other Potters will get possessive about "their" paper ball. It will be interesting to see if that changes once I put more toys and beanie babies in the room. I've yet to meet a baby who won't get possessive over beanie toys. The small tray was removed from the room late yesterday afternoon when I was giving the room a thorough clean. I decided that I had to let go and let them grow up a bit. When I went into the room this morning, I was really pleased to see that the babies had all used the hooded tray over night, there were no toilet messes anywhere on the floor at all and I'm really proud of my little ones. Harry has gotten back into his habit of scaling my legs as soon as he's finished eating now. It was really funny (and painful) at lunchtime when I fed the babies and was scooping out the litter tray. Here was me, bent over the tray, a scoop in one hand and a bag in the other, while Harry was clinging onto my trousers by his front paws, digging his claws into my thighs and quite literally swinging from side to side. I tell you there was no point whatsoever in putting the scoop and bag down and removing him because as soon as you do, he starts the climb all over again. Between the R's being so naughty today, and Harry, I am starting to look like a sieve due to all the claw marks in my body. I'm too scared to drink anything now in case it all starts pouring out of the claw holes. (I can imagine Philippa giggling away to herself when she reads this). Ron Weasley and Madam Hooch have a new game now and it's called "Let's Ride on the Dustpan". It's played like this. I bend down with the dustpan and brush to sweep all the scattered litter and dry food, while Ron and Hooch jump on the dustpan and try to play with the swept up mess. I then move the dustpan slightly off the floor, carry it to another spot, both babies then jump off, wait till I start sweeping with the brush and then do it all over again. Is it any wonder I can never get any work done! today's photos are really dreadful but that's why I'm a cat breeder and not a photographer.
Day 40 - July 28, 2004
Now how many of you who read this diary actually noticed that all of a sudden, there are links to every week right up until week 13? And how many of you clicked on a week ahead to see what on earth was on it? I am trying to save myself some time you see because when the start of a new week is due, it's very time consuming to keep opening up every page and adding a new Week link on there. Amazing isn't it that I've just managed to type 4 lines about in the entry without any actual mention of the Potters themselves :) Well our Potters are doing extremely well although there's not a single one of them who will eat any meat based products at all yet. I even spent 1/2 hour last night trying to convince them to try some tinned fish but to no avail. I just don't understand it. This is the first litter that wants to survive solely on kitten biscuits and milk mixture. As I have now seen every single baby use the hooded litter tray, I am considering taking away their small tray now. Oddly enough it's little things like this which are of no importance to anyone but me, however, the removal of the small tray is a reminder that my Potters are growing into big little kittens which means that time is passing way too quickly for my liking. So at the time of writing this entry, I still haven't removed the small tray. Sometimes it's really nice to keep thinking of them as little ones forever. Mind you, I'm starting to sound like their over protective mother, Cacao, so I really should be a bit more firm and let them grow up a bit I guess. I tried to teach the Potters how to play with a screwed up ball of paper last night and it was a lot of fun. Hermione (who really is the boss of the Siamese babies) just couldn't quite figure out what to do at first. I kept flicking the ball to her, and she would sniff it, and then pick it up with her mouth and drop it, so I'd pick it back up and flick it to her again. After about 10 minutes of this, she tentatively batted it with her paw and it was lovely to see the look on her face and her eyes light up when she realised that she could move the ball herself. By this time, McGonagall had decided to join in and kept trying to steal if off Hermione which Hermione was not impressed with at all. Harry wasn't particularly interested in the ball as the whole time we were playing, he was using my socks as a scratch post!! Madam Hooch and Ron kept edging nearer to McGonagall and Hermione, wanting to join in as well but not entirely sure what it was they were meant to do. Obviously we need to practice this game a lot more.

Day 39 - July 27, 2004
I'm sure you'll be pleased to see that there are actually some photos in today's entry. Every time I have been in the room this morning, Harry has insisted on climbing up my leg which I thought he had actually stopped doing. Madam Hooch scared me this morning when I went into the kitten room to give the babies their breakfast. When I put the plate down on the floor, everyone came running over to me except for Madam Hooch so I looked in the cat carrier as well as behind the ottoman and couldn't see her at all. Suddenly, a little head popped out of the hooded litter tray and she then climbed out and had her breakfast. Up until now, I wasn't aware that any of the Potters had started using the hooded tray. Whenever we have babies in the kitten room, we always start off with 2 trays in the room, a small tray with no hood, and a much larger hooded tray. Gradually, all the babies decide they want to be big kittens and use the same tray as their mum and once that happens, I then remove the smaller tray completely. It looks like my little ones are actually growing up now. Still no interest in any other wet food apart from the mixture I make up for them however they are going through quite a large amount of dry kitten food now, much more than any of our other litters have.

Day 38 - July 26, 2004
I am so pleased the weekend is over although I am still suffering with the flu. Fortunately, the Potters are much better behaved than the R's and don't make anywhere near the mess that the R's are capable of. The Potters had some lovely exploratory time in the hallway today and I'm happy to say that not one of them pushed the stair barrier over. I think that all the babies are wishing their legs would hurry up and grow a bit more because they spend a lot of time trying to get into places and climb things that they aren't quite able to reach yet and they seem to be frustrated by this. I had some lovely cuddles with Ron Weasley and Madam Hooch today when I was sitting on the floor having a chat with the babies. Hermione was much more interested in the dry food than she was in me but that's not unusual as she does tend to like her food.

Day 37 - July 25, 2004
A very quiet day as I'm still suffering quite badly with the flu and we had my mother in law over as it was her birthday which was really nice. Hermione and McGonagall were really funny today as they have spent a lot of their waking time constantly pouncing on their litter mates and springing out at them from concealed areas. Their sister and brothers really didn't appreciate this but how I laughed when I saw them jump in the air with bushy tails every time they were pounced on. It's lovely to see the babies playing with each other so well and unlike the R's, the Potters don't get too rough with their games and it's very rare that you hear a squeal because someone has bitten a sister or brother.

Day 36 - July 24, 2004
This is the start of a horrid weekend as I have now caught some horrid flu and I'm barely functioning at the moment. The Potters all now eat dry food and I'm really pleased. They are coming along in leaps and bounds. They no longer sleep in their cat bed on the floor as they have decided that they much prefer to sleep in one of the cat carriers on the sofa. None of the babies have showed a great deal of interest in any wet food (other than the kitten mixture I make up), it doesn't matter what brand of pouch/tinned/foil food I put in front of them, they are just not interested. However as they are on 5 of the milk based meals a day and as they are eating a lot of dry food, I'm not really that worried to be honest.

Day 35 - July 23, 2004 (5 weeks old today!)

Time is slipping away from me as I didn't realise until I started doing this entry that the Potters are 5 weeks old today. The Potters were wormed today for the first time ever in their lives (should have been done last week but slipped my mind) and they did not like it one bit. They are very stubborn little babies and fully objected to the worming which made it an incredibly messy procedure. Still, at least they were done in the end and fortunately it will be another 2 weeks before worming has to be done again. McGonagall went on a hunger strike after the worming, however, after 5 minutes, her hunger was too much to bear so she joined everyone else at the food plate but she made sure first that I was fully aware how annoyed she was. The Potters had a lovely visit today from one of their new owners which was really enjoyable. I'm pleased to say they behaved themselves as well so I was very proud of my little darlings. Cacao also behaved herself and really enjoyed the extra attention. Poor little McGonagall had a slight accident this morning as she fell off the little cat stand, straight into the water bowl on the floor so she was rather upset. I dried her off and gave her a few kisses which seemed to make her feel a lot better and she went off then and played with everyone else. I remember saying only yesterday I think, how tidy the Potters are in comparison to other litters we've had, however, one aspect in which they are extremely messy is meal times. It's not that they put the food on the floor, (if they did it wouldn't matter as I put newspaper under the saucer), however, they do manage to put the food all over their own faces. I've never seen such messy eaters before in my life. I guess at least it shows that they are enjoying their food.
