Kitten Diaries
Cacao
June 2004
Cacao's 2nd Kitten Diary - June 2004 to October 2004
Day 76 - September 2, 2004
You will see that I actually managed to include some photos at long last in today's entry, although the photos are not very good at all. The Potters just move about so quickly that it's almost impossible to try and take decent photos of them unless they are asleep. Just like yesterday, they have been absolutely everywhere today. Madam Hooch really made us laugh as she spent a good 20 minutes, walking around the house with a toy in her mouth, growling at absolutely anyone and everyone who dared approach her. There was no way on earth she was sharing her toy with any of the others so she'd walk around, stop for a minute, have a game with it, pick it up, start growling, walk a bit further, growling the whole time, and it went on for quite a while. It was really funny and even the "Ugly Stepsisters" (Sambuca and Drambuie) took a step back once she started her growls. Philippa will be cross with me as I have to admit to her that at this precise point in time, I have no idea where the octopus toy is. I know that they play with it because I've seen them playing and carrying it about, however, right now, I don't know what they've done with it, or indeed if it still has all of it's 8 legs. There has been lots of "lounge battles" going on today between Ron and Harry and lots of table battles as well between all 5 babies who still seem to think that our dining table is their own personal boxing ring!

Day 75 - September 1, 2004
I seem to be really behind on my diary entries lately, mainly because there's quite a bit to do here around the house and in the stud house and the Gumnuts are now requiring much more of my attention as they are being weaned and moving about all over the place. Fortunately, it seems to be getting under control although I am finding that I have less and less time to actually do the entries on a daily basis. The Potters played lots of games out in the cat run yesterday which they hadn't done for a few days because of the weather. At one point during the day, I saw 3 babies all at the top of the little tree in the cat run. They are back to tearing throughout the house now, both upstairs and downstairs and we have to be so very careful when we walk about because they will suddenly dart under our feet from out of nowhere. I am pleased to say though that their game of "Swing on the Tablecloth" seems to have stopped thank goodness. They are all really into chasing balls of paper around at the moment. That seems to be the favourite game of the week and they are joined by Sambuca and Drambuie who still love that game as well.

Day 74 - August 31, 2004
The Potters enjoyed some lovely cuddles today, particularly Ron and Harry, by their new owners, Yasmin and Antonio who came around to visit them today. The babies were reasonably well behaved thank goodness :) All 5 babies spent the majority of the morning sleeping and I think the cold weather has quite a lot to do with that. We actually have the heating on today in the house although the windows and back door to the cat run are still left open. By this afternoon, they had woken up quite a bit an their games in the loungeroom and dining room began as per normal. They tend to go out into the cat run more in the afternoon and of an evening after dinner now and not quite so much during the day time. They aren't as keen going out there first thing like they used to be and again, I put this down to the weather. I'm hoping tomorrow, I can get back to normal a bit and include some photos of the Potters as there haven't been any for a few days now.

Day 73 - August 30, 2004
Today wasn't a particularly exciting day for the Potters as we were out for quite a bit of today so it's a very short entry (yes, even breeders occasionally take time out to enjoy the bank holiday!) but during the morning and then we returned in the afternoon, the Potters were as mad as ever. They aren't as keen on their morning meal any more and I am guessing that it is because for the last few days, hubby has been giving them their first meal of the day and he just doesn't do it like "mummy" does.

Day 72 - August 29, 2004
Well at 10am today I had lost our babies. The only one I could find was Ron who was asleep in the armchair. Normally, not seeing them wouldn't bother me much as I know they can't get out, but this morning, Hermione's owner, Phillipa, is coming around to see the Potters so it would obviously help if I had them here to show her. After looking on the dining table chairs, on the sofas, behind the sofas, upstairs, I eventually found them sitting on one of the food tubs under the work top. I was rather relieved as I didn't want to have to explain to Phillipa that it had been a wasted trip as I lost Hermione. All of the Potters had a lovely day with Phillipa (as did I, except for our interruptions and the problem with the train pick up!!) and for the most part, they did actually behave themselves thank goodness. Philippa brought with her, a new toy for the Potters which was a lovely little octopus that the babies are getting a lot of enjoyment out of. Even Cacao really likes it as I caught her rolling around on the dining room table just before dinner with the octopus in her arms. Today, like yesterday, is not a particularly long entry as I've also had the owner's of Ice's new girlfriend here to meet him before bringing their girl out to stud next month, so it's been very busy as you can imagine.

Day 71 - August 28, 2004
A rather quiet day today for our little Potters. Apart from creating havoc this morning while they were playing on the table, they actually did very little most of the day. When they all woke up this afternoon, they did enjoy some fun games with screwed up balls of paper and even Sambuca and Drambuie joined in. It's really funny when the older cats join in the games with the kittens. What I don't understand is how the Potters manage to keep losing their balls of paper. No matter how many I give them, I can usually guarantee that by the next day they have all vanished. McGonagall was trying to catch the fish in the aquarium again today. She spent quite a while batting the glass on the tank with her front paws whilst standing on her hind legs to reach the surface swimmers. Cacao is now looking to be in a bit better condition but I would still like to see more weight on her. She's no longer looking "haggard" though and the reason for this is that she spends so much time away from her little ones during the day.

Day 70 - August 27, 2004 (10 weeks old today!)
I can't believe my little ones are now 10 weeks old and I only have them for another few weeks, except for Hermione who will be with us until October. The last couple of weeks seem to have simply flown by. They've had a very active day today, particularly this morning. Normally, once the Potters have had breakfast, they have a few little games and then settle back down to sleep for quite a few hours. Not today though. They have been all over the place. Hermione spent a lot of the morning trying to make Graham well and truly aware of her presence. She has been on his desk, on his chair, and climbing up his shoulder. The first part of the morning was spent playing wrestle on the dining table and trying to destroy the tablecloth.......again! Then an hour later, Ron and Madam Hooch were chasing each other on the windowsill, Hermione was sitting on the back of the lounge chair with Tia Maria (wonders never cease), and Cacao and Harry will sitting on the back of the lounge, watching everything that went on while McGonagall was stalking Sambuca. It's really been an incredibly busy morning for the Potters. I was thinking that this might mean they would then sleep until much later in the afternoon but it wasn't to be. By 2pm they were up and raring to go again. None of them have been outside in the cat run because the weather has been so horrid. There hasn't been a single incident with Cacao and the dogs today so I'm really pleased. Hopefully, that was just a one off although I'm keeping an extremely close eye on the situation. The babies had a little visit late yesterday afternoon by our neighbour who knocked on the door. Just as she did, Hermione came running out to see who was there, so she had some lovely cuddles with June, and then Madam Hooch and Ron came tearing through the door as well to see what all the fuss was about and enjoyed some lovely cuddles as well. A minute or two later, Harry and McGonagall came out as they knew they were missing out on something so while the first 3 babies were put back on the floor, Harry and McGonagall had their cuddles too. Then the babies realised that there was another world outside the front door so we figured it was a good time to say goodbye before the Potters decided to have a new adventure.
