Kitten Diaries
Cacao
December 2003
Cacao's 1st Kitten Diary - December 2004 to april 204
Day 20 - January 19, 2004
It's rather sad today as this morning I moved Cacao and the little warriors out of our bedroom and into the kitten room. As Tia and the Charmed Ones are downstairs now all day, Cacao will have the whole day up there with her babies to settle them in and move them around if she so desires. Hopefully, she will be happy with the change. On the plus side, it will make it much easier for me as all the kittens will be together in the one room which means one litter tray, all the bedding in the same place etc. It felt really odd taking all the kitten bedding, boxes etc. out of our bedroom and it's going to be very strange tonight as it will be the first time in a month that we have had no kittens in there. The warriors weight gains are really fluctuating at the moment. Some days they gain between 12 - 20 grams, yet other days they will only gain between 5 - 10 grams. I guess though, so long as they are gaining and not losing then we are doing okay. I am going to try my best tomorrow to get decent, individual photos of our babies as they are so beautiful that I really want to show them off to the world.

Day 19 - January 18, 2004
Our little ones seem to have changed overnight. At some point, when I wasn't looking, they all learnt to walk around properly and as a result, tonight will probably be the last night they spend in our bedroom which is rather sad for me. The reason is that they are at the stage now where they are able to get out of the box through the opening and they don't want to be confined any longer. This means that I'll be spending tomorrow moving them into the Kitten room with Tia's babies and will be spending quite a bit of time in there to make sure both queens still get on and we have no problems by keeping the 2 litters together. I think Cacao will be much happier in the Kitten Room as she will have Tia for company and hopefully Cacao will also help Tia to control her naughty babies. Mind you, the Siamese babes will no doubt be teaching the Ori babes all the bad habits they know! I think it will be much better for our little warriors as they will have so much more freedom to move about and grow.

Day 18 - January 17, 2004
As I will be going out today (for the first time since both litters were born), it's not a long entry for today. Our babies are really moving around a lot more now. We put them into bed with us again last night and they were so funny. They were scrambling all over the bed, all over us, we had to keep getting them back out from under the duvet as Xena and Hercules wanted to explore the other end of the bed. It's such a shame that the photos aren't able to show how truly beautiful and special they really are. They are a talkative little bunch and appear to be very fearless at the moment. I'm just waiting for the day to come when their box can no longer contain them.

Day 17 - January 16, 2004
I didn't get a chance to put yesterday's photos online, so those photos from yesterday have now been added to yesterday's diary. I'm pleased to say our babies made some normal weight gains again by last night so that is a big relief. We had some lovely, cuddly time with our babies last night as we felt that may we weren't interacting with them enough. As they are now between 2 - 3 weeks old we think it's time they got used to us humans. So last night we brought the little ones up onto our bed, along with mum and gave them loads of strokes and cuddles which they really enjoyed. They also had great fun trying to climb up the pillows and all over their mum. Gabriel is the most daring baby at the moment whereas little Hercules is the real "baby" of the family. All Xena and Calisto ever want to do is eat. We're going to get into the habit now of doing that with them each night and also spending some time just handling them on and off throughout the day, when they are awake that is. We would like them to grow up like Tia's babies who have no fear of people at all and in fact, love it when a human goes into the kitten room because it means play time.

Day 16 - January 15, 2004
I'm still not happy with their weight gains because when I weighed them last night, there was very little change. I don't understand why their weights are fluctuating so much these last few days, particularly as they have been gaining quite a lot up until now. We haven't changed Cacao's diet at all so that can't be the cause of it. One thing that is concerning me is that Cacao is spending a lot of time on our bed now of an evening. I kept waking up off and on last night to find her either lying on my head or in under the duvet with me and I'm wondering if she's not spending as much time during the evening in the box with her babies as she should. I know that she spends her day time in with them because every time I go in, she is in the box. When I weigh them again tonight, if there is still no change I may top them up, which is something I really don't want to do as they've been doing so well without our help up until now. Cacao will let us do whatever we like with her babies now, but every time we have one in our hand, she comes over to us to see what we're doing but she doesn't stress about it at all which is great. The litter warriors hate being picked up when they are all curled up together and they certainly yet us know about it. However, if we just stroke them without picking them up, they think it's wonderful.

Day 15 - January 14, 2004
Fortunately our weight gains were back to normal last night so I was very relieved. They are all moving around quite a lot more now and are all very alert. To be honest, I don't even know why I'm doing an entry for today because there is absolutely no news about our little warriors at all. All they have done is move around, drink and sleep. That is what the entire life consists of. One thing now though, when I open their box I now tickle them all behind the ear and they really enjoy it so they are definitely getting very used to me now which is good. I guess that in a week they will start to become a whole lot more active which I'm really looking forward to. I'm now so used to Tia's running around like lunatics that I can't wait until these babies do that as well. At least we will have the pleasure in keeping one of these babies here ourselves so that will make their growing up process a whole lot easier.

Day 14 - January 13, 2004 (2 weeks old today)
Our babies weight gains weren't as good last night as they usually are. Normally they gain between 15 and 20 grams per day, however when we weighed them last night, one had remained the same weight as the day before and the others only gained between 5 and 15 grams. I will be keeping an eye on them throughout the day and hopefully they will be back to normal by this evening. Cacao is looking really good at the moment, although she is a bit thinner than I'd like. She had lots of cuddles last night on the bed, but every time she got back in the box, all we could hear were little squeals! I am convinced that whenever she climbs back in that she stands on them. When you pick up the babies now they really cling to you so I suppose they don't quite trust me yet and figure I might drop them. Xena's colouring is really starting to come through now and as it stands at the moment she is a little replica of her mum.
