Cacao's 1st Kitten Diary - December 2004 to april 204
Day 95 - April 3, 2004

My 2 girls have now left me and I am heartbroken. Even cuddles from my own 2 babies are not helping right now. There was a moment when I was holding my Gabby Girl to say goodbye where I didn't think I would let her go. If Caryll wasn't the wonderful person that she is (almost like a mum to me now) I would have told her I was changing my mind and given her the deposit back. I have loved every baby we've had here, but losing Gabby is harder than losing any of the others ever was. At 9.30 last night I went into the kitten room and picked up Gabby and hugged and kissed her and cried. I then took her into our daughter's room to give her a kiss. At 10.30 I did exactly the same and just sat on the floor with her in my arms. Even as I write this I can't believe they are gone. It's going to be so odd tomorrow, waking up without have a litter to prepare breakfast for. My work load will be cut down quite a bit but I would rather be working for my babies here than have all this free time on my hands. As of tonight, both Calisto & Hera will be sleeping with the rest of the cats, there will be no more cat separation between babies and adults, no more moving cat bowls/trays from room to room and I guess I should be really grateful for the break but I'm not. Having said that, I will be making the most of April and will endeavour to get things done around the house before the next litter is due.

We have now come to an end of Cacao's diary and in comparison to Tia's babies, this was a much easier litter. The time has flown by yet again and there are a few people that I really need to thank. Firstly I must thank Doreen & Keith Sillis for allowing us in to their lovely Havana boy Chico. He is a dream of a boy, friendly, beautiful coat/eye colour and superb temperament. Chico has certainly left his mark on our beautiful Little Warriors. Next I must thank Donna, Cacao's breeder for letting us have Cacao as one of our breeding queens. Cacao has done Donna proud, both on the show bench, and also with her litter and she is a credit to Donna. Next I must thank our 2 new owners, Elaine (Xena) and Caryll (Gabby). Both owners are wonderful people and I know my girls will be very well looked after. Caryll in particular deserves very special thanks for reasons that she alone will know about and if I must lose my favourite baby then I couldn't be happier about the home she is going to. I must also thank my wonderful network and support of numerous breeders who have always been available to offer me advice via phone and email...........there really are too many to mention but you know who you are so thank you. Again I will also thank my vet, Andy Garton, who has cared for our girls' health for the first 13 weeks of their lives, as well as looking after their mums and putting up with my "paranoia". Apart from that, I'd like to thank each and every one of you who has taken the time to follow the diary. I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have and perhaps you will join me again at the start of another kitten diary sometime in May.

Day 94 - April 2, 2004
Well the dreaded day has arrived! This is my last day with Gabby Girl and Xena as both girls are going home with their new owners tomorrow. It's a really horrible feeling but I know I can't keep them here forever and it's time they went and created havoc with their new families and destroy their homes instead of mine. Just kidding as they truly aren't that bad. I suppose I should be pleased as it means I can get back to a normal household but I am going to miss them so very much, in particular Gabby, who has really won me over, as well our daughter. There are going to be quite a lot of tears here tomorrow so I must apologise in advance to Caryll who I am sure will be very understanding, as she always is. I finally realised last night that the babies are actually growing up as Xena came up onto the bed and hubby glanced at her briefly and thought that Xena was Cacao! He didn't realise it was actually one of the babies. To be honest I haven't noticed that they have grown at all, although obviously they have done. It did become very apparent after hubby's comment last night. Today has been a busy day sorting out all the paperwork for the new owners as I had only half completed that. Normally it would have all been done by now except for the fact that it's been very busy here with our cats at the moment and will become even more busy now that Tia Maria is pregnant and babies are expected early May. The girls don't like the return of this cold weather which is why they are sleeping more today than they normally would. Although they still managed to create havoc upstairs both last night as well as this morning.

Day 93 - April 1, 2004
The babies are having a much quieter day today. I think the weather has a lot to do with it. Normally after they have had breakfast they play for quite a while and then meander downstairs to see what's happening. Today however, after breakfast they played for about 20 minutes and then all curled up in the Kitten Room to go to sleep with their mum (whom I happy to say has just about finished calling now). They didn't actually come down until just after lunch and then went straight back upstairs again. Last night, we had the adult girls and the babies in the upstairs part of the house, whilst the 2 boys were locked in downstairs and unfortunately, Tia decided it was a good time to be really vile to the poor babies again. Gabby and Calisto got it the worst as every time Gabby went past Tia, she got a whack on the head by Tia, as did Calisto. However, I can see why Tia was smacking Calisto because as soon as Tia's back was turned, Calisto was up on her back legs and grabbing Tia by the tail and biting it! Even so, I have to be very careful because at the moment, all 4 girls have fabulous temperaments, just like their mum and dad, and I don't want that temperament to change as a result of how Tia is treating them at the moment. Needless to say we are keeping a close eye on things. Xena made me laugh twice today when I went into the bathroom. The first time was because she was sitting in the hand basin trying to stick her paw down the plug hole. The second time was because she was lying in the bathtub on her back, perfectly relaxed. She was only missing the water and the bubbles!

Day 92 - March 31, 2004
Gabby had her own little adventure today. As the weather has been so lovely, I've had the back door open (it opens into our enclosed cat run) for the last 2 days. I was sitting here at the pc when I noticed a tiny figure out in the cat run and realised that it wasn't one of my adults. It soon dawned on me that Gabby was in the run. After I brought her back inside I put a small barrier up to stop her getting out. I then went into the kitchen to make a coffee and when I came out I saw that Gabby had pushed the barrier over and gone back out to explore. I truly didn't have the heart to bring her in. She was having an absolute ball out there and obviously was perfectly safe as the run is fully enclosed and her mum was out there, as well as Tia and Ice to make sure she was okay. I had so much fun watching her out there, especially when joined by Calisto. Apart from that, the day has gone as normal and fortunately, Tia has been much nicer to the girls today thank goodness.

Day 91 - March 30, 2004
Today we reach Week 13 of our Little Warriors lives and it's been a really fun 13 weeks. Our diary is now coming to an end and Calisto and Hera will non longer be part of the diary as they are already well and truly settled into their new homes with..............ME. Calisto has now permanently become Drambuie and Hera has now permanently become Sambuca. The diary will still continue each day until our darlings Gabby and Xena move to their new homes. Not that I know how I am going to be able to give them up as I've grown way too attached to both girls, but to Gabby in particular. Each day, Gabby gets more and more loving (and loud!) whereas Xena gets more and more daring. They still all have the run of the house throughout the day time which they really love. All 4 girls are getting a really hard time off Tia at the moment. Tia is so vile to them that all babies now give her a wide berth if they happen to be passing her.
