Cacao's 1st Kitten Diary - December 2004 to april 204
Day 69 - March 8, 2004
As was to be expected, it was a very bad night. By the time 7pm came round, my baby wasn't eating by herself at all. The only thing she wanted was her mum for cuddles and to feed from. The other babies were all put to bed in the Kitten Room early last night so I could concentrate on my girl. I quite literally sat on the floor with her after dinner for half an hour just cuddling her and sobbing my heart out because I couldn't bear the thought of losing her. We took Calisto and Cacao into the bedroom with us for the night and the majority of the night was spent trying to entice her to eat, which she wouldn't and then syringe feeding her, which she fought like mad. She just kept lying down, either huddled up to the radiator (where I had put a special bed for her) or up on our bed lying next to her mum. Cacao didn't want to feed her as all the babies have been weaned for quite some time and they haven't needed to feed from her so naturally every time Calisto tried to feed, Cacao pushed her away. So Graham and I both kept stroking Cacao to keep her lying down while Calisto could feed from her. The night basically was spent lightly dozing, then waking to feed her or entice her to eat. I woke this morning with both Calisto and Cacao lying on my head and on my pillow. This morning, she had a few licks of my kitten glop but that was it. We took her to the vets this morning and she was given an injection and since coming home, she has now eaten twice, very willingly and it's such a good sign. I just pray that she will continue to eat and will gain back some of the weight she has lost. She has to go back to the vets on Wednesday for another injection and if she is getting back to normal by then, it should hopefully be the end of it. It's been such a worrying and tearful few days for us and I have such immense relief that things are looking slightly better now for our little angel. Thanks to all of my friends on the SCOC and my breeder friends for their prayers, thoughts and support. It is very much appreciated. The new owners will be happy to know that our baby's registration papers came back this morning so the Little Warriors are now "official" as such. Our other Ori babies are all doing really well although to be totally honest with you, during the last 24 hours or so, I haven't given them the same attention I normally do because I've been concentrating everything on Calisto.

Day 68 - March 7, 2004
For once I actually have something new to tell you but it isn't great news. My beautiful little Calisto is rapidly losing weight again and is now almost 200 grams behind her sisters. The only bonus with her at the moment is that she will still eat by herself and I'm not having to syringe feed her. I've been feeding her every 1-2 hours today to try and get some weight back on her and it's a case now of waiting to see what happens throughout today and this evening. She still runs around with the others and plays with them and there's no outward signs of anything wrong at all other than the massive weight loss. It's going to be a very long day and quite possibly a long evening. The other Little Warriors are all doing really well and bounding around like lunatics as per usual.

Day 67 - March 6, 2004
We've been in and out today so there isn't a lot to tell, however a few things spring to mind about our Little Warriors. For example, I now know that if ever I am going to fall over a kitten on the stairs, it will be Xena as she is often found either lying, or sitting on the stairs and will not move out of the way at all! Little Gabby is a real "people lover" and wants to be with people all the time. She also is the best purrer of all 4 girls. She loves her games and is often in the thick of the battle, usually winning as well. Calisto now has a new game and that is called "dodging the broom". Whenever I sweep upstairs (every day), Calisto wants to help, so she jumps over the broom, under the broom and tries to catch it while I sweep. It makes housework take a lot longer than it should! As for Hera, well she is still slightly mad and very, very naughty. She is also the instigator of a lot of the battles and if she thinks she is losing, she will run as fast as possible, with her tail like Basil Brush and try and climb up the wall. There aren't any photos for today however I will make sure there are some in tomorrow's entry.

Day 66 - March 5, 2004
As stated in Tia's diary, the entries will be behind due to things going on here so please bear with me as I hope to the entries back to normal by next week. Our Little Warriors are doing very well at the moment and they all still love their little mice. I have to make sure when I put them to bed of an evening that I scour the house for any mice to put in the kitten room with them. They all still live up to their names and love their battles with each other and with the Siamese. Just like the Siamese, they are very attention seeking, however they are slightly more vocal than the Siamese are. In true Oriental fashion of course.

Day 65 - March 4, 2004
I am really struggling to get a decent photo of the Little Warriors lately. I'm going to have to try again a bit later today and hope I manage to get something I can use. Again, it's been one of those days where nothing out of the ordinary happened. When I was finishing off the weekly weight charts today I noticed that there was a significant drop in the weekly weight gain of all the Ori's. I'm not sure why and I compared the Ori chart with the Siamese one to find that the Siamese had the exactly same problem, however, theirs occurred a week later. It will be interesting to see how they get on this week with their weights as ideally, I would like to see them gaining at least 100 grams by the end the start of week 10. Xena is weighing in as our biggest girl at the moment, with Calisto obviously being the smallest. There have been massive "lounge battles" between the Ori's and the Siamese this morning with Gabby being the worst offender! That girl just has to be in the middle of whatever is going on. Xena was more content to just sit and watch while she chewed on the cushions that are on the lounge. Poor Calisto got the fright of her life when Pru jumped on top of her and she hadn't seen it coming.

Day 64 - March 3, 2004
It's just been one of those days where nothing at all has happened. Apart from eat, sleep and play, everything is as it should be. The Little Warriors have slept a lot more yesterday and today than they would normally but I'm assuming this is a result of the vaccines yesterday. When they are awake however, you certainly know about it! As usually they've been wrestling and playing chase on the lounge today with the Siamese babies and a great time was had by all. At least when they play now, they have learnt not to be too rough, because we no longer hear any squeals like we used to when they were younger and would bite each other's ears too hard. I do wish I had more to tell you, or at least something exciting about them all, but there is just nothing out of the ordinary. I will be taking photos tonight and will them in here tomorrow as the batteries in the camera died and are currently re-charging.

Day 63 - March 2, 2004 (9 weeks old today!)
As I type this, little Gabby is sitting on my shoulder purring away and Phoebe is walking all over the keyboard trying to delete everything I'm doing! Well our Little Warriors lived up to their names when they were ever so brave at the vets this morning. They all had their first set of vaccines and were all beautifully behaved. When I brought them back home they all enjoyed a plate of sardines. So far, everything has been fine and none of our girls are showing any signs of any ill effects so I'll be keeping a close eye on them for the next 24-48 hours but so far, so good. Our lovely receptionist at the vets was very impressed by our babies ears so I spent some time happily showing them off to her. Like the Siamese babies, the little Ori's have been terrors this morning, as well as last night. When they're asleep you would never believe that these little angels can be so naughty.
