Kitten Diaries

Amaretto's 4th Kitten Diary - January 2006 to April 2006
Day 69 - March 27, 2006
Our babies were extremely quiet this morning which is very unusual for them. They had their breakfast and then they all climbed back up in the chair and went back to sleep. Normally after breakfast they would then run around throughout the rest of the home and create havoc. This really was very much out of character so much so that I did poke them just to make sure they were still alive! I did discover afterwards that they were just conserving their energy because they woke up again at 11am and the run began. Wrestling matches from one end of the home to the other. Guinness has been in one of those moods where she thinks she can take on the entire world in battle and she still has the advantage of being much faster than her brother and sister. Again, today's entries are not particularly long as I am in and out all day today for various things so as per usual, there is more photos than text.

Day 68 - March 26, 2006

As today is Mothers Day, I'm not going to write a lot in the entries but I have compensated for that by putting in more photos :)

Guinness is really doing extremely well still and I'm very pleased with her weight gains. She is still quite a bit smaller than her brother and sister, but when you consider the rough patch she has been through, she is making excellent progress. Caffreys and XXXX are also doing extremely well and I am more than happy with their current weights. All 3 Pints tend to be little terrors when they are awake and creating havoc in the home but they are so very funny to watch. We had a first yesterday as well which I forgot to mention in the diary and that is that Caffreys was the first of the babies to venture outside into the cat run. Even though the door is almost always open all day long, the babies have had no interest in going outside as the weather has always been way too cold. However Caffreys saw the adult cats out there yesterday and decided that he would join them which was really lovely to see. Then naturally it's been pouring all day long so far, so the door is closed and nobody at all is prepared to go outside.

Day 67 - March 25, 2006
There are no photos in today's diary at all because we had a few visitors yesterday and I didn't have the chance to take any photos. All the babies have had a wonderful day as they had lots of extras cuddles due to the fact that Elaine, Gary and Aiden came to visit Caffreys (and Ned Kelly). It was really lovely to see them all again, especially as I haven't seen Gary in quite a long time and this was the first time he'd seen his new family members. I was a bit concerned he may have been put off though by Toussaint who didn't miss an opportunity to jump up on Gary's shoulder when he had his back to her! All the babies were thoroughly spoilt as Elaine had bought them all some new toys, some wonderful balls that roll in a bizarre fashion (these fascinated our daughter actually as she was trying to figure out why the rolled the way they did), and some fabulous mice. Of course what I didn't fully take in during their visit is that the darn mice squeak ever time they are moved. The noise does drive you barmy after an hour or so of constantly being played with so Elaine and I shall have "words" when next we are in touch :) I was also spoilt as Aiden gave me the most divine smelling bouquet of Daffodils which are so very pretty. Fortunately the babies woke up to play during their visit and they got to see them all in action which is really lovely because last time Elaine and Aiden were here, the babies were much younger and at that stage they slept more than they did anything else. Poor Aiden almost had to stay with us on a permanent basis as when he went to visit Sheridans, he managed to lock himself inside the stud house with Sheridans. Now I know Aiden would love to spend more time here with the cats and babies but I don't know if that was the right way to go about it :) The babies also had a visit from a lovely couple named Laura and Dan. It was really great to meet them both and to have a chat with them and when the time comes for them to add some new furry additions to their family, I am sure they provide a wonderful home for a baby or two.

Day 66 - March 24, 2006

Sitting here just sorting out the photos for today's entry and I felt something on my shoulder. It didn't feel heavy enough for Toussaint so when I turned around, I discovered it was Guinness! It would appear she has been watching Toussaint in action and thinks that shoulders are a good place to sit on. It's bad enough that I can only sit on the very edge of my chair because Caffreys and XXXX are both sound asleep underneath the throw at the back of me and they are so sweet when they are sleeping that I just do not have it in my heart to move them. During the evening, before they are shut in for the night, our Pints do become little terrors. They tear around the entire downstairs part of the home, climb onto absolutely everything, scare the heck out of each other by pouncing when some poor unsuspecting victim is not looking, and in general, they just create havoc. During this time, I could sit and watch them for hours. The thing is though, that I have to keep rather still and sit on a chair with my feet up otherwise I end up being run into, pounced on, or get caught in the middle of 2 kittens wrestling.

The very last photo in today's entry is an extremely special photo, but to find out why, you will have to open up the large image :)

Day 65 - March 23, 2006
As I write this entry I am sitting here with an entirely numb mouth (which I'm sure some of you will think is a good thing) having just come back from my dentist where I had a filling replaced so this may not be the best entry in the world and most certainly will not be the longest. As you can see by the first 4 photos (yes photos are few and far between today again sorry), the Pints favourite place to play at the moment is on the glass coffee table. They all climb on there and then duck under the adjoining tables trying to catch either other. Guinness has the time of her life on there because she sits on the top table watching through the glass as Caffreys and XXXX run under the other tables and she waits until they are at the edge where she then leaps on them as they continue to go forward. Caffreys has the biggest problem with the tables though because he is larger than the other 2 so it is more difficult for him to squeeze under the adjoining ones. Their other main place that they love to play is still under, on, and around Graham's work surface. I think they love it there because there are so many little nooks and crannies they can climb in and out of.

Day 64 - March 22, 2006

Both diaries are really the same today, extremely short and with few photos. With the best of intentions I've still not managed to find the time to write a proper entry today which is why it is so very late going online. I mentioned earlier (I think?) that is was going to be a hectic week and already we've had to pop out at least once throughout each day so far. In actual fact I will be pleased when the weekend arrives so I can have a bit of a rest.

Guinness now has an imaginary friend! I was watching the babies play yesterday in the lounge/dining area and I had to giggle because Guiness broke away from the pack, went to the edge of the rug and started pouncing on someone who simply did not exist. She had a wonderful game for 10 minutes with her imaginary friend. So I'm going to guess that she either has a very good imagination, or, she will require the help of a psychiatrist once she reaches her teenage years :). Caffreys has been a very good boy today and has not gotten into any mischief at all, or at least if he has, then he has waited until I've not been in the vicinity. XXXX on the other hand has been creating havoc all around the home, particularly on my work surface. Mind you, I can not blame her entirely as Joe Byrne is leading her astray. She has followed him wherever he has gone today so I shall have to keep a close eye on that friendship because I do not want Joe Byrne turning my sweet, innocent girl into a carbon copy of himself!

Day 63 - March 21, 2006
I do not know where the time has gone and I was a bit shocked to read that today our Pints are 9 weeks of age! Guiness' weight is going quite well and she is now only 106 grams lighter than XXXX. This might seem like a huge amount but when you consider there was a stage when there was a much bigger gap between her weight and that of her brother and sister, then 106 grams isn't bad at all. Another thing I noticed yesterday is that she is still eating the JW kitten biscuits as I discovered when I heard someone at the bowl and when I turned around, Amaretto and Guinness were both happily munching away. One thing which is going to be interesting is the fact that normally at this age the babies would be receiving their first set of kitten vaccinations however, as mentioned previously we are holding off on their vaccines until the Bush Rangers are old enough for theirs which won't be for another week and a half. I will be very interested to see whether or not holding back on the vaccinations will have any effect on the babies. I'm not worried about the situation because the babies are all just fine and perhaps it's actually better waiting anyway until Guinness (who is currently sleeping on my lap with Ned Kelly) has a bit more weight behind her. All 3 Pints are still spending their waking moment running throughout the entire home, climbing up on the dining table, going up and down the stairs and creating havoc in general throughout the home. I have no idea what happened this morning but I heard a couple of thumps and I saw Caffreys land in a rather undignified position at the foot of the stairs and a second later, XXXX was at the bottom of the stairs although she chose to run down them and not fall down them. I am not sure what had been going on but at a very rough guess, XXXX must have chased Caffreys down the stairs and he has lost is footing and rolled down the last few steps. He was fine, not hurt at all and after I had examined him, he went back to playing with his sister.
