Kitten Diaries
Amaretto
July 2005
Amaretto's 3rd Kitten Diary - July 2005 to October 2005
Day 41 - September 4, 2005
I think Crunchie needs to learn some kitten etiquette! Twix was using the litter tray this morning after their "2nd breakfast", and Crunchie jumped in the tray and started pouncing on Twix's tail and then was trying to cover up his tail with bits of litter. Poor Twix was trying desperately to ignore him and carry on with his business but it was rather difficult. He ended up getting out of the tray, and then 3 minutes later when Crunchie also got out, Twix went back in and finished off what he started. Buttons and Whispa have been getting quite a bit of exercise today in the form of chasing each other around and around the post on the scratch post. Buttons was just about to climb up the scratch post while Whispa and Cute T were sitting on the base of it, when Whispa pounced on Buttons, and then started chasing her around the pole, with both of them knocking off Cute T in the process.

Day 40 - September 3, 2005
Poor Crunchie was cornered by the mean Galliano today which was not a pleasant experience for him. He had been sitting on the base of the scratch post, minding his own business, when Galliano came into the room and started growling and hissing at him. Galliano got a ferocious growl back for his trouble (from me) and ran away rather fast. I then picked up Crunchie and gave him a cuddle and he ran off to play again. Whispa had a visit today from her new owner Caroline which was really lovely and I'm pleased to say that she behaved herself, as did all of the babies, mainly because they were too busy sleeping to care what was going on. Whispa had the good manners to stay awake and have some cuddles with Caroline. Twix and Crunchie also had a visit today from their new owners, Brad, Debbie, and their sons, Fred and Jacob. I had met them all before on a previous visit and it was lovely to see them again. The babies all had some wonderful cuddles with everyone. Fred and Jacob are such a credit to their parents because they handle our cats and babies so gently and it's really wonderful to see children who have been brought up with such a respect for fur kids. I know that Twix and Crunchie are going to have a wonderful home with their new family and they will also had another furry playmate there called Fidget. Today's photos are not wonderful as the sun was shining directly on the babies but I wanted to give you an idea of what they are like when they are playing games with each other.

Day 39 - September 2, 2005
I'm afraid that all entries are virtually the same today and there are no photos at all. The reason for this is that for the first time in over a month, something had to take priority over the babies and that something was the "Jungle". I can not remember the last time I mowed our back yard and we have quite a large yard. I've only now just come back inside from mowing and the front still has to be done. This is why entries are so late and there's virtually nothing in them. The babies all now have full house access for most of the day and I was stunned yesterday afternoon to see all 6 babies outside in the cat run (at this point, the grass was higher than the babies, hence the urgency to get the mowing done!). It's finally occurred to them all that the outside is a great place to be which is lovely. The sunshine and fresh air will be great for them. They're still a bit wary of our older kittens, particularly as Galliano and Sheridans have this horrible habit of growling at the babies whenever they encounter them. Mind you, the babies are not put off by this too much and each of them will stand their ground which I'm pleased about. I really am going to stop typing now because I can barely lift my arms over the keyboard. Tomorrow's entries will be back to normal :)

Day 38 - September 1, 2005

As you can see by the photo below, Whispa had a lovely day with some great cuddles from our friend Ray. It was just the sweetest thing to see her curled up in his hand, at peace with her surroundings and enjoying a nap. I didn't think I'd get these entries online today as I am severely lacking motivation however, with babies in the house, it's impossible to become lethargic. The babies have now been moved slightly and live under my work surface which has it's good points and bad points. The good points are that I don't have to poke my head around the filing cabinet to see them now, I just have to look down and there they all are which is lovely. The bad points is that I have accidentally put my food once already in the small litter tray that resides not too far from their beds (must be about time to start moving the tray further away now I think), and the babies are even more inclined to climb my legs now because as soon as they wake up, my legs are right next to them <sigh>. I am really proud of Crunchie because yesterday, he climbed in the big cat's litter tray, all on his own and went to the toilet, just like the big kids. This was a great moment to see one of my babies trying to copy all the adults.

And at long last, Kim has finally gotten around to updating the Kitten Diary but I must say that the wait was well worth it because her babies are simply divine.

Day 37 - August 31, 2005
There's no photos in any diary entries today because to be honest, I just don't have the time. It's really hectic here today so you will all just have to "imagine" what your babies look like. As each day passes, the babies are more and more adventurous and playful. They have been having a great time exploring absolutely everything. Again today, I had the door opened for a while so that our other cats could go out into the cat run if they wanted, which naturally they all did. At the moment, I tend to have the door open while the babies are asleep and when they are awake and running around, I close it again because they are a little in awe of the larger kittens and cats and play less when they are in the room.

Day 36 - August 30, 2005
Amaretto is still feeding the babies which is really great and they are also still eating from the plate. They are now at that stage where all I have to do is rattle the newspaper and they all come over to me, knowing that the newspaper sound is an indication that food is about to be served. I do recall thinking a week ago that we would never ever get to this stage yet here we are. Their current favourite food is the Whiskas Junior mixed in with the soggy kitten biscuits and at the moment, all 6 babies will eat from the plate at the same time which is a rather big relief. Out of all the Chocolate Bars, Whispa is the one who is most inclined to climb my legs and sit on my lap while I am working at the computer.

Day 35 - August 29, 2005 - 5 weeks old today!
Five weeks old today and starting to become mischievous and get into everything that they possibly can. Their waking moments now are spent eating, playing with each other and exploring/climbing. All the babies are at that stage where there is no holding them back now. They go wherever they want. Yesterday, for most of the afternoon, I had the glass doors open so that our other cats can make use of the cat run and so that the babies could go out into the main part of the house if they so desired. Buttons, Crunchie, Mr T and Whispa didn't hesitate. They were out the door like a shot, under the table, under Graham's desk and sniffing everything in sight. It's really great to see them so interested in their home and to see them totally unphased by the other cats who, incidentally, at this stage are rather horrid to the babies and hiss and growl at them. It's not really any surprise though 4 of our other cats are still babies themselves, around the 6 months old stage. No one's legs in the house are safe now either because if the babies see a pair of human legs, they scale them straight away, regardless of who they belong to.
