Kitten Diaries
Amaretto
July 2005
Amaretto's 3rd Kitten Diary - July 2005 to October 2005
Day 90 - October 23, 2005
There really are no entries for today and again it's the same for each diary. I've spent most of the day trying to catch up on everything that I didn't get done yesterday because I was out. So I am just going to say that all babies are doing really very well, creating havoc and mess as per usual and are simply being typical kittens.

Day 89 - October 22, 2005
If you've read one diary entry today, you have read them all because all 3 entries are the same without any photos I'm afraid. The reason for this is that we've been out for most of the day, having a day off really which we don't get to do that often. Despite me asking them all to behave themselves and despite the fact that I sat them down and said: "Now that you are grown up kitties, you need to accept some responsibility and because I trust you, we are all going out for the day and will leave you to your own devices. Now I know that you won't invite your furry friends over for parties, and I know that you will make sure you still have your naps in the afternoon and I know that you won't make any long phone calls or leave the house and go out with your mates." They all looked at me, ears cocked, listening intently and when I had finished Twix, who is the spokesman for the Chocolate Bars and Dancers said: "It's okay mum, you can trust us and when you get back home you will be so impressed at how responsible we have been that you will feel happier about having another day off". Cacao, who is the Matriarch of the family glared at me and said: "You are having a laugh! These babies are too young for responsibility but as you insist on having a day off, then on your head be it!". It would appear that Cacao was right, as always, because upon our return, the upstairs hallway and bathroom looked as if a hurricane had torn through there. The bedding was not where it should be, there was food and litter scattered everywhere, paw prints on the bath, toilet and hand basin, to say nothing of the toys strewn from the downstairs entrance all the way to the bathroom. I think it's safe to say that today was my only day off until the babies leave! I'm afraid that the situation was no different for our Berries either, however, I didn't bother giving them the "responsible teenager" speech as they are still too young to do much damage (and I don't think they have any friends anyway) but I did warn their mother that she was going to have to keep them under control and that she would have to ensure they ate plenty of their dry JW kitten biscuits. Now I am presuming that she did this because the the bowl was quite a bit emptier upon our return and their was kitten biscuits all over the floor!

Day 88 - October 21, 2005
Trying to take any decent photos of the Chocolate Bars (and the Dancers for that matter) was nigh on impossible as none of the baby wanted to stay still. Also, our other cats' big head kept getting in the way of the photos. This morning, our Chocolate Bars spent some of their time playing about in the loungeroom downstairs and bouncing all over the sofa, then Twix and Crunchie decided it was much more fun playing in the upstairs hallway so they sprang off the sofa, with a trail of Dancers behind them, and tore up the stairs as if demons were after them, which I guess could be accurate when the Red babies were running behind them as fast as they could. Once Buttons and Whispa realised that it was just them left on the lounge they were not overly impressed and it took them less than under a minute to get off the lounge, up the stairs and start creating havoc in the bathroom!

Day 87 - October 20, 2005
Well our Chocolate Bars had their final vaccinations this morning, hence the lateness of the diary entry due to now being behind in everything yet again. Standard after any visit to the vets really. I took these photos about 1/2 hour after we arrived back home from the vets and you can see just how little the vaccines have affected the babies. They were all really well behaved and didn't sing too much in the car there and back which I was rather pleased about. It really is not a long entry at all sorry, so I thought I would make up for it by putting in lots of photos and hopefully, our new owners will be so pleased to see all the photos that no one will complain to me about the lack of text!

Day 86 - October 19, 2005

The Chocolate Bars and the Dancers entry both start off the same because as you are aware, they were all evicted from the back room (where they used to sleep at night and where they used to be fed) as I needed to move the Berries downstairs into the back room. When I first moved the Berries in, the other babies could not understand why they suddenly couldn't get into the back room. Fortunately, they were used to spending a lot of time upstairs, playing and sleeping and they already had litter trays and food/water bowls in the upstairs hallway. I put their large vet bed up there as well. Feeding time was a bit difficult because they all knew that they should be getting fed in the back room so I had to prepare their meals, and then take it upstairs, calling the babies behind me as I went and fortunately they all followed me. They were then fed in the kitten room (where the Berries used to live) and after they had eaten, they were put back out into general population. The meal times are a bit of a chore doing it this way but the babies now know which room is their meal room. Last night, as per usual, the babies had the run of the house until it was time to sleep. It was actually easier to gather them up and get them in their bedroom because they were already upstairs running about in and out of our bedroom and in the hallway so it was simply a case of scooping them up one by one, putting them in the kitten room, giving them their last meal and letting them settle for the night. I had to give Mo new feeding instructions as she is always the first person out of bed and she feeds them their early breakfast. It certainly does make it easier getting in and out of the kitchen though with no babies screaming at us for meals. On the whole, the babies have all adapted really well although our hallways is now littered with cats and kittens because wherever the babies are, the other cats want to be as well. The only slight change to all of this is that the mum's no longer go into the room with the babies of an evening. They don't see their mum's during the night however they are with them from about 7am until 11pm.

Twix found this change the hardest, only because he is an extremely stubborn boy and as far as he is concerned, the back room is HIS, which means that every time I opened the darn door, he was in like a shot. Between Twix and Sheridans, I think I must be losing a stone a day, chasing after them at full speed before they get anywhere near Sambuca and the Berries. Crunchie was in an extremely affectionate mood last night and was up on the bed with us, along with Toussaint and Cacao. The poor little guy was convinced that both girls were one of his "mum's" and he spent absolute ages nuzzling underneath both of them looking for nipples and comfort. Toussaint was his best bet as she was much more willing to let him try, whereas Cacao gave him a nip on the ear for his troubles.

Day 85 - October 18, 2005
I did actually manage to take some photos for what seems like the first time in ages, they aren't great, but at least they are photos. Crunchie has been the first of our Chocolate Bars to really take on Toussaint, the newbie in the household. Crunchie was in the upstairs litter tray, going about his business, (rather typically he waited until I changed the litter and washed the tray!) when Toussaint heard him in there and stuck her head in to see who it was. Crunchie was most put out by this so he smacked her in the face with his paw which really surprised her, so much so that she ran away. He could then finish his business and get back to the washing basket lid games. All darn morning the Chocolate Bars and Mrs T have been playing in the bathroom with the lid off the washing basket. When I take the washing down in the morning, I leave the lid in the bathroom because the babies love it. They try to fit as many as humanly possible underneath the lid while it's on the floor. Then the babies who aren't under it, jump up and down on top, poking their paws through, trying to get the babies underneath it. I really must take some photos of these games because they are very entertaining.

Day 84 - October 17, 2005 - 12 weeks old today!

Unfortunately there are no photos today to mark their 12 week stage as it's been a hectic morning at the vets with vaccinations etc. and I'm incredibly behind now but I will definitely make sure there are photos for the rest of the week. Our Chocolate Bars are booked in for their last set of vaccinations this week on Thursday and it's so hard for me to come to terms with the fact that they are almost grown up kittens now and will soon be ready to leave me. All 4 Chocolate Bars are such happy, loving babies. As I write this entry, Twix and Crunchie are curled up asleep on the vet bet with their mum, whilst Buttons and Whispa are playing in the upstairs hallway with the Dancers and I'm hearing an awful lot of thuds from up there so goodness only knows what they are doing! I think that when they do leave me in just 12 days time, it's fairly safe to say that the house will be much, much quieter :(
