Kitten Diaries
Amaretto
August 2004
Amaretto's 1st Kitten Diary - August 2004 to November 2004
Day 69 - October 12, 2004
Poor Banksia Man had a run in with Tia Maria today. Banksia was about to step outside into the cat run whilst Tia Maria was on her way back into the house. Tia isn't particularly fond of the babies at the moment as she's rather hormonal and she didn't hesitate in letting Banksia Man know this by growling quite ferociously at her. Obviously, Banksia's tail and hair stood up on end but she did have the common sense to back off and let Tia through. The weather has been very wet today so none of the babies actually went into the run at all and most of their nap times have been spent by the warmth of the radiator. Snugglepot got into trouble from me yesterday when I caught him swinging backwards and forwards on the rug we keep on the table. It wasn't that he was trying to get onto the table either, he was actually just having a fun time swinging. I wasn't particularly happy as I don't like to encourage that habit at all. My darling little Cuddlepie has just been her usual, loving self and hasn't been up to any mischief at all (that I know about).

Day 68 - October 11, 2004
It's been a very uneventful day with the Gumnuts. They have been their normal, playful little selves and had tremendous fun in the cat run this afternoon. The babies have been much more interested today in their dry food than the moist food. They're now down to 3 wet meals a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner but they forever have their heads stuck in the biscuit bowl.

Day 67 - October 10, 2004
We were out of the house for a few hours today so yet again, another short entry sorry. This morning though as soon as breakfast was over, the little ones ran straight outside into the cat run and played chase and stalk with Aunty Sami. Sambuca is always so incredibly good with the little ones, she joins in their games, and will play with them for hours. Drambuie will sometimes join in too, but usually only when they are playing chase the paper ball, when it comes to playing in the cat run, Drambuie will tend to sit up in a high spot and just watch their antics. They really are very funny when they're in the cat run and I do get a lot of enjoyment out of watching them.

Day 66 - October 9, 2004
I'm afraid that this weekend's entries are going rather short as we have quite a lot on here over the weekend. We spent the majority of today putting up a new cat house and run and it did literally take most of the day. The Gumnuts had lovely cuddles with Saul (Banksia Man's new owner) and thank goodness Saul knows us so well and seemed to ignore the fact that the house looked like a tip. All our little ones are doing very well and are now starting to spend a lot more time out in the cat run. I nearly had a coronary yesterday when I saw Snugglepot had climbed the tree in the cat run and was right at the top. He managed to figure out that he was better off climbing backwards down the tree as opposed to going forwards so I was very proud of him :)

Day 65 - October 8, 2004
Well our Gumnuts had their first set of vaccinations this morning and they were so very good. Little angels really. I do hate vaccination time. We've never had a problem at all with the FeLV vaccine but I always have this worry at the back of my mind. Still, it's over and done with now. As soon as we came back from the vets, our little ones had something to eat and then climbed up on my chair to sleep for a number of hours which is the usual practice after vaccines. I did learn that Banksia Man is not a good traveller at all and I'm really pleased that Saul and Monika won't have too long a journey to take her home. The babies finally woke up at about 2:30, had a meal, and then chased each other through the house like lunatics so I guess we don't have any side effects to worry about. Sometimes babies will sleep and be a bit lethargic for the first 24 hours following their vaccines but the Gumnuts appear to be back to normal already.

Day 64 - October 7, 2004
I'm afraid that our little Gumnuts have now been orphans since yesterday afternoon, or at least that's what they feel like. I've moved Amaretto up in the kitten room, right away from her babies as they are really taking a lot out of her. Her milk will hopefully dry up in a couple of days and with no demands for the milk bar she will hopefully start to look like her normal self again. The Gumnuts are coping really well without her and as they are part of the normal household during the day, they can still rely on our older cats to assist in teaching them right from wrong in regards to cat etiquette. They still insist on eating the dry adult biscuits as well as the kitten biscuits and I'm finding it impossible to stop them. It's obviously not doing them any harm at all though as they are all looking wonderfully fit and healthy.

Day 63 - October 6, 2004 (9 weeks old today!)
Well our little Gumnuts are now 9 weeks old and I haven't had the heart to tell them that on Friday they are going for a nice little car ride to meet Andy (and to have their first set of vaccinations). I've decided that my favourite part of the day with the Gumnuts is just after breakfast. When I come downstairs in the morning, the first thing I do is check all the cats, fish etc, feed the babies, then check my emails while I have a cup of tea. As soon as breakfast is over, the Gumnuts climb up my legs and climb right into my dressing gown for cuddles, purrs and little naps and all you can see is 3 little heads poking out. It's a short entry today with no photos and a sad day for me as my darling Hermione is leaving me, thereby ending the Potters Kitten Diary.
