August 2004
Day 97 - November 9, 2004
There's not really an entry today as it's been very hectic here and a lot of the day was spent fiddling with our computers. We also have a lovely girl here for her honeymoon with Ice and that is taking up the majority of my time obviously. The little ones are doing really well but I don't think they are particularly fond of the cold weather as neither of them have been outside in the cat run at all. They have, on the other hand, spent a lot of the day tearing around the house like lunatics. We've had a change of plans now with our darling Cuddlepie who will be remaining with us for an extra fortnight and she is now leaving us at the end of November. This will be nice for us as we get all those extra cuddles with her for a little while longer.

Day 96 - November 8, 2004
The house is very much quieter now and even though Cuddlepie & Banksia still play and wrestle with each other, there is no "crashes and bangs" and Snugglepot's departure has made quite a difference. Both girls spent some time yesterday looking for him, as did Amaretto however today, they have decided that he's obviously not here so they will get on with it. Yesterday afternoon both girls had some lovely cuddles with Saul & Monika (Banksia's new kitten family) and fortunately they both behaved themselves and were very cuddly and didn't embarrass me.

Day 95 - November 7, 2004
Well it's the day I've been dreading although I'm sure that Carol has been looking forward to it. My darling Snugglepot left me today and I'm incredibly sad about this because like every other baby we have ever bred, he has a very special place in my heart and he was one of those babies that you always knew was about. He is incredibly active, very funny and is a real people lover as well as being an incredibly snuggly cat. Last night we had the bedroom door open for an incredibly long time as we had the horrid fireworks yet again and all the little Gumnuts were on the bed, as well as our other cats and the dogs! Snugglepot climbed in under the duvet with me for cuddles and purrs (actually, I picked him up and put him under the duvet with me but he was more than happy to stay there). I'm really going to miss this little guy but I'm sure that Carol will love him, care for him, and protect him as much as I have and he's going to be incredibly happy with her. This is now our 5th litter and I truly thought that by this time, the pain of letting them go would have lessened a great deal but it's just as hard this time around as it was with our first litter. I haven't included any photos of Cuddlepie or Banksia as this is Snugglepot's "special day" and like all our other babies, I took a few photos of him to remind me of his last day with me. It really breaks my heart every time one of my babies go and the house always seems so much quieter, although judging from the noises that have kept the whole household away for the past 2 nights, there's every possibility that we may be hearing the pitter patter of tiny feet again in January :)

Day 94 - November 6, 2004
A bit of a sad weekend as my beloved Snugglepot is leaving me tomorrow to live with Carol. Fortunately, I will still have Banksia and Cuddlepie as they are remaining with me until next weekend. It was rather a hectic morning as I had to finish off (I'd hardly started actually) the Gumnut's paperwork and I was very pleased to see that their registration papers arrived in the post this morning, just in time. None of our little ones were bothered at all by the dreadful fireworks last night, although I did leave the television on for them so that the sound of action movies would help to cover the loud bangs of the fireworks. (I really hate this time of year). The only noise from any of our lot last night was coming from the kitten room and I'm hoping that it was the noise of successful matings happening! The Gumnuts had a special treat today at lunchtime when they were given a plate of scrambled egg and smoked salmon. Certainly something we normally wouldn't be eating here until Christmas but as it's the first weekend in absolute ages that we haven't had either cat shows or football to attend, we decided to make the most of it. The little ones really enjoyed their special treat and after they had finished it, they all climbed up onto the dining room table to finish off the leftovers on our own plates!

Day 93 - November 5, 2004
Another short entry today as most of my day has been spent moving cats around as I'm trying to get some matings underway over the next few days. I had to include the photo with Cacao and Snugglepot because if I hadn't have captured it on film, I'd never have believed it otherwise. As Cacao is constantly calling lately and very hormonal, she will not spend any time with the babies and if they come near her she will bop them on the head. Today however, she has been grooming them, and even sleeping with them as you can. Wonders never cease! None of the Gumnuts (nor indeed the adults) were happy with me at all today when I dragged the hoover out of the cupboard to do the floors. Before I'd even carried it down the stairs there wasn't a baby to be seen. I think the adults must have warned them about the "hoover monster". The little ones have been quite good today, even Snugglepot.

Day 92 - November 4, 2004
It's not really much of an entry today because I just haven't had the time as I've had other things going on here today that needed my attention. I've now discovered why if anyone is going to get bopped on the head in this house it will be Snugglepot because he is such a troublemaker! I was watching the babies for a long time last night playing on the dining room table, along with Cacao and the Ugly Stepsisters and Snugglepot is absolutely merciless! It didn't matter which cat walked past him, or lay down beside him, but to him it was an open invitation to attack them. He would throw himself at the others, grab them round the neck and bite them on the ear, or he would bite their tail, or try and pin them on their back and it was so funny because naturally there is rather a large size difference between him and my adult Orientals. I actually lost track of the amount of times they all smacked him on the head. They weren't being horrid, just retaliating to his attacks and showing him that he may well be of the male species but he's considerably lower down in the pecking order than the adults. It was even funnier when the adults had him in a headlock and Cuddlepie joined in and started chomping on his tail which naturally made him get out of the adult's grasp and tackle his sister instead. Even darling Banksia joined in and it simply went on for ages and ages and I have to say that one of the best things about having these babies is watching them play and interact with each other as well as our adults. Their new guardians will be happy to hear that I didn't "lose" the babies at all today (thank goodness). They've definitely fallen into the routine now whereby they will play for part of the morning, visit the cat run and the upstairs part of the house, then they will settle down to sleep for a very long time, waking again in the late afternoon to start their games that will then go on until very late in the evening.

Day 91 - November 3, 2004
Ahhhhhhhhhh 13 weeks old now! We've reached the dreaded week :( They had some really lovely cuddles last night with my good friends, Caryll & Jacqueline and they got to see Snugglepot in action as he tried to attack Drambuie on top of the dining table. The Gumnuts gave me a tremendous scare today. It was about 1pm and I realised that I hadn't seem them or heard them for a little while so started a house search (as you do even though there's nowhere they can go) and still couldn't find them. I looked in all the usual hiding places, upstairs, downstairs, even opened up bedroom doors where I knew they couldn't be as they don't have access to those rooms during the day. I went out into the main cat run and looked in both the cat houses out there and still couldn't find them. I even started looking under the lounge cushions and equally other stupid places. Starting to really panic now, I called out "Babies" and still no reply. Then I happened to glance down under one of the small coffee tables next to the lounge and there on the floor, were all 3 Gumnuts curled up on top of each other, totally oblivious to my mounting panic. I was so overwhelmed with relief to actually find them that I didn't even have words with them as to why they wouldn't answer me when I called them. After that, the babies spent the majority of their afternoon playing with Drambuie in the cat run.
