Kitten Diaries
Amaretto
August 2004
Amaretto's 1st Kitten Diary - August 2004 to November 2004
Day 13 - August 17, 2004
I spent a good 2 hours cleaning out the Kitten Room today and then moved Amaretto and the Gumnuts into their new home. I really feel so much better now that they have their own space, particularly as by the next week, I'm fully expecting the babies to start moving around a lot more. Amaretto was not bothered by the move and it will be interesting to see where she decides their new "bed" will be. The Gumnuts were obviously not concerned by the move but at their very young age, all that matters to them is that their mum is with them and the milk bar is permanently open.

Day 12 - August 16, 2004
Our little Gumnuts didn't get a great deal of attention today as it's our wedding anniversary and Gino and Birchy left me today to move in with their new kitten family. Fortunately, the Gumnuts are still at the stage where there is very little to do for them other than weigh them. Amaretto is very content with their new home and I didn't have the heart to tell her that they would be moving out shortly and into the kitten room. I'm hoping to make the time tomorrow to thoroughly clean out the kitten room and prepare it for the Potters. This is the longest that any of our babies have ever spent with us in the bedroom. Our babies weight gains are still going extremely well and Cuddlepie is the biggest of our 3 babies although the other 2 are not far behind him.

Day 11 - August 15, 2004
Amaretto has now found a new home for her babies. She has taken all of the Gumnuts out of the box and stuffed them in one of my clothes shelves. This meant I had to take all the clothes out and fill the shelf with kitten bedding and then put a makeshift curtain up over the shelves to make sure they all had some privacy and some quiet. She's much happier now they have a new home and is no longer trying to move them about. Banksia Man is still the only baby who protests very loudly at being handled, however, he is getting a lot better about it now and Amaretto no longer is as concerned if he protests because she's finally realised that her babies are perfectly safe with us.

Day 10 - August 14, 2004
As stated in the Potters' diary entry, the entries over the next few days will be short as I have been avidly watching the Olympic games and taking some time out to enjoy our Aussie athlete's performances. I noticed during the day today that all our Gumnuts eyes are now open which is great. They all have gorgeous little eyes :) Amaretto kept putting babies in our bed last night and I kept putting them back in the box. For some reason, it's always Cuddlepie that she picks up and carries around. I don't think we'll be able to keep them in the bedroom for too much longer as she really does want a new home for her babies now.

Day 9 - August 13, 2004
I'm pleased to say that Banksia Man now has his left eye fully open and his right eye partially open so within the next day or so, I will be expecting to see 6 little eyes peering at me. Banksia Man still objects very strongly to being weighed, picked up, looked at and held. It's funny though when I'm holding him, Amaretto will go into the box and sit on Snugglepot and Cuddlepie to make sure that I don't get my hands on them as well. She's a very protective mother. Weight gains are still very good and all babies are feeding extremely well. They are starting to move around a bit more now and trying to crawl about. Amaretto was very restless last night and I can't help but think she is looking for a new "home" for her babies. I really need to get them out of our bedroom and into the kitten room, however the kitten room is currently taken up with Tia Maria who is still calling. Hopefully it won't be too long before the Gumnuts can move home.

Day 8 - August 12, 2004
Amaretto was not happy today as I must have not closed the bedroom door properly and Gino (one of the R's) got into the room. Fortunately, Mo was upstairs at the time and noticed and called me straight up. Amaretto must have had a go at Gino who was under the bed all bushy tailed with her hair standing on end. The Gumnuts were not phased by any of it, but as they're not old enough to be really thinking or moving anyway, that's no surprise. Once I had removed Gino from the room and checked the Gumnuts were all fine, Amaretto settled back into bed with them but not before glaring at me! Obviously she is blaming me for the whole fiasco! Snugglepot and Cuddlepie both now have their eyes fully open and what beautiful little eyes are they as well :) Banksia Man seems to be much slower at opening his eyes. I had a thorough look at him today just to make sure that everything is okay though and his eyelids aren't swollen, there's no "crusty bits" there, it's just a case of him not being ready yet. Although his left eye had started to open slightly in one corner so I'm sure it won't be too long now. Unfortunately there's no photos today as after I finished downloading the Potters photos, the camera batteries died.........yet again!!!! I really must thank Lesley today for letting me have a moan to her about kitten/cat related problems and for making me laugh and realise that you do cope with everything, despite what you think and that chances are, I will look back on this time and laugh and wonder how I managed.

Day 7 - August 11, 2004 (1 week old today!)
I'm thrilled that we have reached the 1 week old stage, although they aren't actually officially a week old until between 8pm and 9:32pm tonight. Both Snugglepot and Cuddlepie are developing colour on their ears and noses now which is looking decidedly blue but I was expecting them both to be Blue Points anyway so no surprise there however it's still really wonderful to see the colour starting to come through. When I changed the bedding today, Amaretto was most put out. I put the babies on our bed while I put new bedding in there and Amaretto jumped up onto the bed, picked up Snugglepot and carried her back into the box. Obviously I need to be much quicker at bed changing! It's the first time that she has ever actually picked up any of her babies to carry them somewhere.
