day 60 - October 1, 2009

I'm desperately trying to get back on track with our Oceans' kitten diary but I was out all day yesterday and I have quite a hectic week planned but am going to see if I can manage just a few words and photos each day.

As I wasn't home yesterday (a very rare thing indeed), I left the wire door to the kitten room closed all day as I don't like the babies roaming around unsupervised with Jag unless I'm home, so when I arrived home and once the Oceans had been fed, I opened the door up and they flew straight out, up the scratch post, some ran up the stairs and they were very relieved to have the run of the home again. I'm sure I've said this before but it is great to see them wandering around the house and to see them becoming just that little bit more independent.

On Tuesday we had a visit from Pamela and John who were here to visit Indian and it was so lovely to see them again. Indian did behave herself and was very happy to have cuddles with her new mum and dad and we had a really great visit. The Oceans were awake and playing during their visit which was nice because sometimes it can be a hit and miss affair as to whether or not kitten families get to see the kids in action. Remembering of course that young kittens do have a lot of naps during the day so it's always nice to see them running about during kitten family visits.

Now that the Oceans are 8 weeks old (almost 9 weeks really), I have started introducing them to wet commercial foods, and a handful of biscuits here and there. I have to say that they have no interest whatsoever in the biscuits but they are eating the commercial foods as well as their standard raw diet so this should hopefully make the transition much easier when they move in with their new families.

Both Southern and Arctic, as per usual, were a nightmare during photo session mainly because no matter which baby I placed on the chair, Arctic and Southern wanted to be up there as well and I spent more time taking them off the chair than I did take the actual photos. Both those children are really going to be a handful when they are teenagers!

day 57 - September 28, 2009

Missed entries yet again due to the fact that I was not on the computer at all during the weekend as I couldn't be bothered. I am making an effort today to get some sort of entry online, with photos.

Our Oceans are 8 weeks old now and they all seem to be doing quite well although Pacific is still very, very tiny bless him. Normally the babies would get their first set of vaccinations at approximately 9 weeks of age however I am going to hold off for an extra week or so because I would like the Oceans to be a bigger before having their first vaccines. They are all healthy and thriving, as well as being extremely active and energetic but I don't feel comfortable having jabs done at the size they are now.

The babies had a visit today from dear Gwen Squishy Face and her family. It was lovely to see Gwen again and to meet her family, and at least on this visit the Oceans were actually awake and playing unlike during her last visit when all they did was sleep. Gwen and Tony of Chrestomanci Siamese & Orientals are expecting their first ever litter within the next 2 weeks and then it shall be my turn to go and visit their new babies :) The kittens seemed to be pleased to get extra cuddles for someone other than myself bless them and of course Toussaint and Afrikoko were delighted with the extra attention.

We did have an incident between Afrikoko and her mother the other day. I have no idea what happened but heard the sounds of a rather ferocious dispute so I ran down the stairs into the kitten room to see Toussaint looking all hairy and scary, while her daughter and the Oceans were underneath the kitten box. I'm not sure what caused it but I put Toussaint out of the room for a little while and everything calmed back down and then Koko wanted her mum back in the room. Chances are they were arguing over who should be looking after the Oceans because sometimes, Toussaint forgets that they are not actually her children.

Tomorrow will be a special day for Indian because she is having a visit from her new parents so I just hope she will be on her best behaviour................
