day 80 - October 21, 2009

Not the easiest entries to type as I have Jag, our Rottweiler, trying to sit on my lap while I sort out today's kitten diary. He seems to forget just how large he is and can't figure out why he's having so much difficulty trying to sit on me.

The photos below will show you just how independent our Oceans are becoming and just how much a part of the family they really are. The babies no longer all choose to sleep together in curled up with their mum. Instead, it's not unusual at all to find them in different parts of the home having a nap but what I do love is the fact that as per usual, our own cat family have accepted the Oceans so readily. There is certainly no shortage of "motherly and fatherly" love and attention in this home.

I really need to start reducing the Oceans' meals now because they will be leaving home in a few short weeks and at the moment they are still on 6 meals per day which they most definitely do not need. This is evident by the fact that there is quite a lot of food left over after each meal. The majority of their meals are still totally raw and I'm having to make a really concentrated effort to remember to give them some wet commercial foods as well. Our Oceans have thrived on their natural, raw fed diet and I really do not like having to include commercial kitten foods in their meals but it has to be done before they move in with their new families.

day 79 - October 20, 2009

Arctic is not having a good day and it started off quite badly when I came back from walking Jag and was about to enter the kitten room to see if the babies had finished breakfast only to open the door onto Arctic's foot. He squealed, the females came rushing over, the other Oceans all did their Basil Brush impression, and it took 5 minutes for everyone to calm back down. I then hung a new toy in the kitten room that I had found in the tub that has all the dog equipment in it and Xaica jumped up to grab it, flung it into the wooden shelves, dove in there after it, only to knock the heavy staple gun out of the shelves where it landed right next to Arctic, missing him by millimeters and scaring the heck out of him for the 2nd time in the space of an hour. The final straw, however, was when he was chasing his sister, Southern, and he was running to fast and was so intent on catching her, that he just forgot to stop running when he came to the patio door. If he manages to safely make it throughout the rest of the day without a vet visit I will be very surprised.

Everyone else seems to be doing just fine and days are spent getting under my feet, eating me out of house and home, playing hide and seek and doing everything that Oriental kittens are supposed to do :)

day 78 - October 19, 2009

Yes we have managed 2 diary entries in a row, much to my surprise, and no doubt yours :) It always amazes me that no matter how many toys we all buy for our babies, they will still play with, and get, immense enjoyment from the oddest of things. At 6:30 this morning I had gone into the kitten room to feed breakfast to the babies and discovered Arctic and Indian were playing with a broken door handle (don't ask!), they were batting it across the floor and giggling away to themselves and each other as it went flying from one of the room to the other. Atlantic was on top of the scratch post desperately trying to catch the hands of the clock as they went around, and Pacific was doing his level best to knock the digital scales off the fireplace <sigh>. Southern was sound asleep which made a nice change. As I stood there watching them, prior to entering the room, I have to question what it is about these weird and wonderful objects that entices the babies?

The Black Spotted kids really did not want to come out of the box to have any photos taken this morning and when they eventually decided they would venture out, I had to laugh because Indian, Atlantic, and Arctic all thought they could come out of the hole at the exact same time. You have no idea of the funny faces they were pulling when their heads were all squashed up against the edge of the opening. I do love them, truly I do, but some days they are not particularly bright............

day 77 - October 18, 2009

In case you had forgotten what your babies look like, I managed to get individual photos of the Oceans today. The only baby who had no interest at all in being photographed was Southern because all she wanted to do was jump down off the chair and play. Our Oceans are 11 weeks old today and I can say that I do know where the time has gone between Week 10 and Week 11, it has gone on the stairs and upstairs landing, both of which are now finally complete. Perhaps we can get back to normal now?

Yesterday I had the pleasure of seeing Pacific's new mum and dad and it was really lovely to see Gemma again as I hadn't seen her in years and it was also great to meet Neil. We also had a visit from our dear friend Kate of Kaypez Siamese because Gemma is going to be having one of Lily's babies, as well as Pacific. It's so nice to know that Pacific will have a Siamese playmate. We did have a thoroughly enjoyable visit and Pacific was more than happy to cuddle up on his new mum and dad's lap and I was delighted to hear that Neil and Gemma are going to continue with the raw diet :)

Everyone is doing really well and Atlantic has surpassed the 1 kilogram mark now and she is the largest of our babies. Pacific is still the smallest but he is doing extremely well and there is actually very little difference now between Pacific and Indian. He has really come along in leaps and bounds. Now that the DIY is finished, the babies have been having the run of the home as per normal and they really are so delighted to be out of the kitten room and they have been zooming about all over the place although none of them have ventured outside into the cat run yet. I can't say that I blame them as it's totally freezing here at the moment.
